B.F.A. in Theatre - Theatre Studies Specialization
The Theatre Studies (TS) Specialization offers TS Theatre majors the unique opportunity as undergraduates to expand their B.F.A. training into critical studies, directing, playwriting, and stage management. During their junior and senior years, TS students often participate in Theatre’s Mainstage productions, student-based independent projects, and Metroplex theatre productions working alongside faculty, local professionals, and celebrated guest artists as assistant directors and stage managers. In their senior year, TS students can choose to apply for capstone-level positions, including directing a Mainstage Rep play or developing an original play in the New Visions, New Voices reading series. TS students can elect to continue their acting training alongside the Division’s Acting students; they also successfully audition for and accept roles in the Mainstage season.
Alumni of Theatre’s TS program include professional artists currently working as actors in film, television, streaming platforms, and theatre; artistic directors and directors in regional and national theatre companies as well as directors in television and streaming platforms; film, television, and theatre producers, including producing for Broadway; educators in key high school and university theatre programs; playwrights and writers for television and video games; casting agents; and founders and artistic directors of regional theatre companies.
