The Bill Schucany Visiting Scholar Lecture Series
Professor William R. Schucany served on the Statistical Science faculty for 40 years before retiring in 2011. He was internationally recognized for his contributions to the field of nonparametric statistical inference. In acknowledgement of his research productivity, Professor Schucany has received many national and international prestigious awards, including the American Statistical Association's highest honor, the Founder's Award. Professor Schucany was widely recognized as "Mr. Statistics at SMU" and was the heart and soul of the department for many years. One of Bill's passions is attending a good seminar presentation. To honor him, the department has initiated a lecture series in his name, which will bring some of the world's elite statisticians to SMU to speak and interact with faculty and students.
