The Women's Center is proud to announce it's Fall 2007 Women Who Rock award recipient! Congratulations Megan Knapp!                                         
Megan works in the Memorial Health Center and has been very involved with Women's Center through Love Your Body Day and Allies. Her voice, her strength and her presence has made a real impact on the SMU community.

Organizations of the Women's Center

The Women's Center provides student  leadership development opportunities for the members of the student groups advised out of the Center. Student groups which are advised by the Program Coordinator of Women's Programming and meet at the Center include:

  • WIN LogoWomen's Interest Network (WIN) provides a voice for women's interests and concerns on campus by sponsoring programs designed to stimulate conversation and action.  In the 2001-2002 academic year, WIN coordinated a benefit performance of The Vagina Monologues that raised over $4000 for a local domestic violence shelter. WIN consists of several sub-committees such as Take Back the Night and Men with Integrity.
     

  • photo of GLBTSO studentsSpectrum (formerly GLBTSO) seeks to create a forum in which gay, lesbian,  bisexual, transgender  students and their supporters can come together in a non-threatening environment to speak openly about their concerns. Through programming which addresses stereotypical images and misconceptions, Spectrum provides educational opportunities for its members and the SMU community.

     

  • YWCA@SMU Logo ImageYWCA @ SMU works towards the goal of empowering women and eliminating racism everywhere. With its rich history in the Abolitionist movement and its close connection to the national YWCA, this organization provides outstanding mentoring and programming on diverse women's issues.

     

  • WISE Logo ImageWomen in Science and Engineering (WISE) through its middle-school mentoring program, provides positive role models and hands-on learning opportunities in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. WISE offers its members leadership opportunities and strives to facilitate greater communication and integration between SMU science and engineering departments.
