Student Leadership Resources

Women's Center Student Organization's 4 Pillars of Expectations:

VOICE

We will enter community and discussion anticipating the good intentions of one another and we will actively reflect upon and apply new models of dialogue that we may value every voice. We understand that communication including articulation of needs is the most positive way to address conflict and that our Advisor welcomes-and expects our voices.

COMMUNITY

As Women’s Center student organizations, we are framed in common hopes for new possibilities and a foundation seeking justice for all, thus we live in and out of an ethic of cooperation and mutual participation in events and activities. Out of this we may plan events together, offer support and service to one another and share in our common mission.

We value one another and thus honor our time commits to working in concert or participating in our events. We will be thoughtful in our preparation that others time will be well spent whether in general meetings, leadership team meetings, discussions, or programs. We will commit to leadership as we are able, in a manner, which honestly reflects our time commitment, our desire to do such work, and our willingness to complete the task at hand. We acknowledge the Women’s Center’s commitment of professional staff and resources. We will work in conjunction with our Advisor to develop meeting times and programming which is reflective of our commitment to community.

We value the space which provides a launching point for our visions and programs and recognize our need to respect it’s integrity and leave the space in a manner which welcomes the use of others. We will respect the Center Usage Agreements and advocate for responsible use by our members.

PURPOSE

We recognize our role as educators in our community and we will approach our work with thoughtfulness. Thus, we will educate ourselves, manage our time, and approach our community in a manner, which recognizes the worth and value inherent in each person.

Our events will reflect careful planning and preparation; we will seek to advertise well in advance and quality will be valued over quantity of programs. Information, including fliers, mailings to listservers, and websites will reflect the most thoughtful efforts of student leaders and Women’s Center staff, that our communication may reflect the very best of our organizations and the Women’s Center. Therefore, communication would be complete with time for reflection and editing by other leaders and the advisor.

EQUITY

We seek to advocate for equality in our organizations, on campus and in the community. Fairness and Justice are valued as we seek new leaders and develop our organizations. We strive to be inclusive in our membership, our actions, and our vision.
