Betty Maynard Award

Award Amount: $2,000

About the Award:

In honor of Betty Maynard, longtime sociology professor, her brother William Maynard established an award and scholarship endowment in her honor, for an outstanding  women's studies minor. Betty Maynard served as chair of sociology, she helped establish women's studies, was associate dean of Dedman College, and President of the Faculty Senate in 1985-86. She was a well-known campus activist, passionate about exposing students to ideas of gender and human equality. She was a mentor and role model to many students, and encouraged women students to define themselves as individuals and to fulfill their dreams.
