As a clarification, Java and Javascript (a.k.a. JScript) are different technologies. These policies only cover Java.
SMU does not provide assistance for client-side Java. Whether it works depends entirely on the Java code and the implementation in HTML. Client-side Java does not interact with SMU's web server, so Web Services and the Webmaster's Office cannot control if or how client-side Java works on your pages.
SMU only supports server-side Java for high-priority department-level situations where no reasonable alternative exists. Server-side Java is almost exclusively used for Java client/server applications. It requires custom implementation by the server administrator and specialized support from the web team.
