Academic Resources for SMU Students
Learning how to be a successful college student is difficult. The rigors of college-level academics and the demands of extracurricular activities are beyond what most people expect. However, even the most prepared students can, with help, exceed what they might achieve simply on their own. The following services provide assistance to help you thrive at SMU.
Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center (A-LEC) – Offers a tutoring program widely used by SMU undergraduates, Academic Skills Workshops and a one-credit course in college-level academic skills, ORACLE (EDU 1110).
The Writing Center – Faculty offer one-on-one tutorials that can help you understand a writing assignment, get started in the writing process, revise a draft or apply a teacher’s comments to subsequent assignments.
Central University Libraries – Learn how to research more effectively by consulting with a reference librarian at the Fondren Library Center or the Hamon Arts Library. Don’t just go to the library, question authority – ask a librarian.
Services for Students with Disabilities – SMU’s Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities is available to help you and your professors reach appropriate accommodations. The A-LEC also offers support services for students with learning disabilities and ADHD.
SMU Information Technology Services – Offers help with computer problems, repairs, installations, and e-mail accounts.
