Activities for Section 6: KEY SIGNATURES

    1. Practice writing on staff paper the key signature of 7 sharps and 7 flats in both treble and bass clef. Have the correct position and order next to you (on the computer screen or print out the previous section), so that you aren't making mistakes. After 10 or more times, then try to do them by memory.
    2. Make flash cards, writing the name of the key on one side (i.e. G Major) and the number of sharps or flats on the other (i.e. "1 #"). Use a separate card for each major and minor key. Have someone practice these with you until you can easily identify the number of sharps or flats in all keys in less than 2-3 seconds each.

    3. In the music that you are playing/singing, find and identify the major and/or minor key of each piece.
    4. It is important to solidly memorize ALL major and minor keys. Before playing or singing any music, ask yourself: "What is the key signature?"
