found Mr. Carneal, of Cincinnati.  Was one of the passengers in the car with me from Baltimore.

At Washington I found S. P. Carson,[ 2]  who had got better after I left him in Louisville, and having come on by Wheeling, he reached Washington before me.  Here also I found T. Green and Dr. Neblett.  They are on their way to Philadelphia and New York to try to sell Galveston and the scrip.  After going home to see my family I am to join them at the North.

Took the steamboat at 10 o'clock p.m.

Sunday, June 26, 1836

At daylight this morning we arrived in Potomac Creek, and took the stage for Fredericksburg.  We had not gone a mile before a brace of the stage in which I was, broke, and we had to wait until the driver could go back for another stage.  It rained very hard, and the roads were very muddy.  By this misfortune we were delayed nearly two hours, and did not reach Fredericksburg until near 8 o'clock.  Found my family all well.[ 3]
