centralism; that the person who had furnished Santa Anna with funds had been discovered, and measures were taken to prevent any more from going to him; that Santa Anna had returned to Mexico, etc. The report is believed here, probably because they wish it true. Zavala thinks it probable. Saturday, March 26, 1836 This morning Mr. Thomas is found to be opposed to the terms agreed on yesterday about the loan. And further negotiations have to be entered into. Potter goes to the coast, to take a view of the ports, and arrange for fortifications, etc. This is unfortunate, for he is the most liberal and conciliatory member of the Executive and I fear the negotiations will get on badly in his absence.
