Having bargained with Gary to clear out his league of land for half, I started to go to the Falls. Gary was to go to San Felipe and make the entry of the land against my return. About two miles from his house, in attempting to cross New Year's Creek, being ignorant of the ford, I got very wet, coat pockets, boots and saddle bags all full of water. With some difficulty I got the horse out and returned to Gary's. Fortunately, his wife and children were from home, and did not return until evening, so I had the freedom of the whole house.
