Summer School 2008: Visiting Students--Admission & Enrollment

Visiting undergraduate summer students are students attending the 2008 SMU Summer Term who are enrolled in neither SMU's Spring 2008 Term nor SMU's Fall 2008 Term.  Visiting undergraduate students wishing to enroll in the Summer Term should complete and submit (by mail, by fax, or in person) an Application for Admission and an Enrollment Form (printable PDFs).  The Application must be on file at least 24 hours before the student's course enrollments can be processed.  Eligibility for admission requires students be in good standing at the last school attended and be eligible to return to that school.  Continuation students (undergraduate or graduate) do not need to apply for admission to Summer School.

To apply for admission and enroll in courses "in person," students must come to the Summer School Visiting Students' Office at 6410 North Ownby (#75 on the campus map).   All applications for admission made during late registration must be made in person.

Course cancellation prior to the first day of class has a 5% charge of tuition and fees.  On the first through the second day of class, a 50% charge of tuition and fees will be assessed.  For further details call the Summer School Visiting Students' Office at 214-768-4272.

Schedule of Classes

Help Reading the Schedule of Classes
The Summer Schedule
link takes you to a page that offers you 3 ways to view the entire schedule as well as an option to view just those courses that are offered after 5pm.

The first viewing option is "Schedule of Classes:  Class Search on ACCESS.SMU" which is the most accurate of the 3 options (it is updated in real time).  To view this up-to-the-minute schedule, select the "View Schedule of Classes" option, which is under "ACCESS.SMU Guest Features."   You will link to a page on which you need to select "Summer 2008" as the Term; from here you will link to a Class Search page.  On the Class Search page, you must complete at least 2 fields to access any part of the schedule.  In addition, you may need to scan the entire list to find all you need; subjects are ordered by rubric on this list.  For example, journalism courses are listed as "CCJN-Journalism" and photography is listed as "ASPH-Photography."

If you prefer to view the entire schedule through one of the other two viewing options (one of which is an Excel spreadsheet and the other a PDF file) or you wish to view the evening course schedule, please notice that the courses in these documents are ordered according to the Session in which they are offered -- Summer I, Summer II, or the Combined Summer Session.  In both the Excel spreadsheet and the PDF file, all of the Summer I courses are listed first (see SI in the Session field), followed by the Summer II courses (S2 in the Session field), which are followed by the Combined Term courses (S3).

If you have questions regarding any of these schedule formats (ACCESS.SMU, Excel, or PDF), please call 214-768-4272; we will be happy to help you!

Course Descriptions can be linked by selecting "View Course Catalog," which is under Guest Features on the right side of the screen.  However, course descriptions are stored by catalog number, which are available in the "Schedule of Classes."  A "View Schedule of Classes" option appears immediately under the "View Course Catalog" option.
