Dear SMU Students,

As all of us are aware, a tremendous tragedy occurred in Haiti during our winter break. Recent reports indicate that over 200,000 individuals are estimated to be dead. Those who survived now face a struggle to find things such as water, food and shelter, elements of life that we often take for granted. As SMU Students we are very fortunate to be ok at this time and not in a position of need. As citizens of not only the SMU community but of a global community we have a civic obligation to help our neighbors in Haiti.

We would like to invite you to participate in SMU's earthquake relief campaign: SMU's Heart Beats for Haiti. The goal of this campaign is to raise as much money over a three week period beginning Monday, January 25th and ending Monday, February 15th to be given to the Clinton-Bush Relief Fund. Through uniting together as one SMU, we're sure that the school can accomplish something to be proud of!

There will be tables set up outside Hughes-Trigg and Umphrey Lee to donate with cash, check or Pony. Donations of $10 or more will purchase a "heart" to be proudly displayed in Hughes-Trigg. While these numbers are set to purchase a heart, we are also accepting any extra donations or smaller donations.

Finally, we encourage to attend events hosted by organizations throughout the three weeks. It is inspiring to see so many organizations already working together but we would like to see SMU uniting together as one body to give one gift.

To donate, please bring cash or checks to the comptroller in SAMSA. Checks should be made out to "SMU's Heart Beats for Haiti." Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with all of you to do our part in solving this catastrophe.

Sincerely,

Rachel Carey
