Senate Committees

Executive

Chair: Student Body President Patrick Kobler

Comprised of Student Body Officers and Student Senate Officers and oversees the administration of Student Senate.

Communications

Chair: Catherine Gibson

Promotes Senate and facilitates communications between the Senate, the student body, and the SMU community.

Finance

Chair: Josh Espinosa

Supervises the accounting system of Senate and all chartered student organizations. Allocates money through the Senate Fund and Chartered Organizations Fund. Allocates approximately $840,000 through the Chartered Organizations Fund, Senate Fund, and Summer Exec funds, and the spring budget process.

Membership

Chair: Jack Benage

Coordinates and conducts student body elections. Screens and recommends qualified students for the Senate and its committees.

Organizations

Chair: Katie Perkins

Reviews groups applying for chartered status and makes recommendations concerning those organizations. Reviews, oversees, and makes recommendations regarding all student organizations.

Scholarship

Chair: Rachel Brown

Conducts the interviewing and awarding of Student Senate scholarships from the Student Endowment Fund. This committee also oversees and maintains the Student Endowment Fund.

Student Concerns

Chair: Brad Mitchell

Vice-Chair: Giacoma Cusimano

Provides the student body with a voice on University issues and pending legislation. Investigates student complaints and concerns, such as those involving diversity and environmental policy, in order to make proposals to Senate and the SMU community.

Diversity

Chair: Jasmine Carr

Facilitates interaction and cultural awareness between various backgrounds. Serves as a liaison between different ethnic, religious, sexual orientations, age groups, and nationalities within the SMU community by ensuring that they continue to have a constant voice within the Student Senate.
