Dining with Decision Makers (DWDM) is an annual event that provides students with the opportunity to share their experiences with members of the SMU Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is the University's highest governing body. The Board meets four times per year, with an evening reception and dinner that accompanies each meeting. Dining with Decision Makers takes place at the dinner corresponding to the February Board meeting. This year, DWDM will take place on Thursday, February 21, 2013.
Students who are selected as dinner participants will have the privilege of attending the formal Board dinner. At the dinner, students will have the opportunity to discuss university issues and experiences with the Trustees and university administrators. Generally, students that represent a large range of campus perspectives are selected to attend. The DWDM program will include the remarks of four students who have been selected to discuss their SMU experiences and to answer questions after dinner.
While the application process for becoming a student participant is highly competitive due to limitations of space, all members of the SMU student body, including both undergraduate and graduate students, may apply. Historically, preference has been shown to students who are engaged in university life and can demonstrate an awareness of a broad range of student issues.
To be considered, you must submit your completed application and requested materials to the Dean of Student Life Office, located on the third floor of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Rm 302, no later than 12 NOON on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Students who have been on Disciplinary Probation or higher will not be considered. There is an interview process; you will be notified soon after of the status of your application and invited to sign up on the form on the door of the Dean of Student Life Office for an interview that will take place on February 6 or 7.
If selected, you must:
Sign confirmation form to acknowledge your selection by the announced deadline.
Attend a MANDATORY meeting on Wednesday, February 13 at 6:00 pm in Hughes-Trigg Atrium A/B.
Attend the entire DWDM event on Thursday, February 21, 2013.
Failure to meet these requirements, without prior communication and arrangement with the Student Representatives to the Board of Trustees Committee, could result in the loss of your spot as a DWDM participant. For more information, contact Student Trustee John Oakes at email@example.com
