Covering the Campus
A look at issues and current practices within college student media with particular emphasis on the current structure and opportunities within SMU Student Media at The Daily Campus and the Rotunda yearbook. Students will be asked to compose a Letter To the Editor suitable for publication in The Daily Campus as part of their class assignment.

"Is it really cheating if I ____?"
This workshop will discuss the Honor Code and the implications of Academic Dishonesty in the university setting. Topics we will cover are the Honor Code provisions including Academic Sabotage, Cheating, Fabrication, Facilitating Academic Dishonesty, and Plagiarism, with a special emphasis on real life examples. We will also cover the Honor Council, referrals to the Honor Council, and Faculty Dispositions. The presentation ranges from 20-30 minutes and there is time allowed at the end for questions from students. To schedule this class please have a copy of the class syllabus available for the presenter beforehand.

The Language of Gender
Through an interactive class activity, students will examine the variety of words used to describe women and men in our contemporary society. The activity will help students process themes of sexualization, power, racism, classism, and marginalization that can be experienced through language choice. Binary concepts of gender will be explored with emphasis on how our language can broaden our appreciation of gender. Resources available in the Women's Center will also be shared.

LGBT Communities of Dallas
This workshop aims to broaden an understanding of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) identity by way of the local LGBT communities in Dallas. Through the use of a commu-nity newspaper, students will research various aspects of the community including: symbols, history, faith, and activism. Discussion will address the impact of hate on this community, as well as share SMU-specific resources.

Leadership: Moving from Concept to Application and Context
Participants of this workshop will explore the concept of leadership...what it means and how it is often interpreted. Discussion of leadership as an individual trait versus a group phenomenon will enhance the clarity of the term. Using the guiding principles of theoretical constructs, students will examine leadership in terms of the ethical responsibility of leadership, how to work towards a common purpose, and how to effectively practice the skill in a variety of situations.

Selling Yourself in the Interview
To receive a job offer candidates must be able to clearly communicate their strengths, skills, and qualifications during an interview. To prepare for a competitive job market, learn what to expect during an interview process and how to leave the interviewer with a great impression of your qualifications. This presentation will help students realize the importance of a well prepared interview and provide them with steps on researching the company, preparing an opening statement, answering common and tricky interview questions using the STAR technique. There will also be discussion of professional and business casual clothing, interviews over a meal, the use of portfolios, and preparing questions to ask the employer. There will be a power point presentation, class discussion and interactive projects.

Utilizing Your Strengths in School and Work
Participants of this workshop will have the oppor-tunity to explore the themes of talent that they learned about upon entering SMU and how they can best develop their strengths as a means to excel in academic and professional settings. Utilizing information from the Gallup Organization’s Strengths Finder instrument, students will explore their top five themes and be able to explain their use and importance in a variety of settings.

Why Use Career Services
This 40-minute interactive workshop is designed to give students an overview of the services offered by the Career Center. The areas of discussion and interaction will be career counseling, career planning, resources and services, resume and cover letter development, job/internship search and upcoming events to help students as they prepare for the world of work. Students will learn about the MustangTrak database and the process to get registered to search for jobs, internships and to sign up for on-campus interviews. Students will be provided with a brief overview of employers that recruit at SMU.
