The Summer 1949 issue featured an essay by Donald Gallup containing his wartime correspondence with Gertrude Stein. The photograph of Stein was taken by Carl Van Vechten on the terrace of her summer home of Bilignin on June 13, 1934.

 

David Nathan Meyerson Fiction Prize

The winner of the 2009 David Nathan Meyerson Fiction Prize is Carol Roh Spaulding. Her winning short story, "A Former Citizen," will appear in Southwest Review Volume 94, No. 4.
