"Giant" Stars

Even by Hollywood standards, the premiere of “Giant” was a major event in 1956. Thousands of fans lined the red carpet waiting for the stars to arrive at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Behind the publicity machine, however, was the real story about the making of “Giant.” SMU film historian Ronald Davis interviewed several of the actors about the making of the movie.

  • Learn what Rock Hudson really thought of the 23-year-old James Dean.
  • What did Hudson and his co-star Elizabeth Taylor do to prepare for a pivotal scene together?
  • How did director George Stevens get such great performances out of his young stars?
  • Hear Jane Withers' take on starring in the movie.
