
- Brian, South Africa. (Summer 2010) Brian Fennig, a wellness lecturer in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development, is traveling to South Africa in summer 2010.
- Cheyenne, South Africa (Spring 2007). Cheyenne is a junior from Dallas majoring in public policy, with a minor in economics and human rights. She traveled with a group of 15 students, faculty and community members on a trip August 2-12 to South Africa, led by SMU Human Rights Program director Rick Halperin. The trip focused on the events and landmarks of apartheid, the system of racial segregation enforced there by the white-controlled government from 1948 to 1989.
- Erica, Cairo. (Fall 2010) Erica will be taking classes in Egyptology and Middle Eastern studies at the American University in Cairo with SMU-in-Cairo. She hopes to learn as much Arabic as possible while traveling throughout the region.
- Ethiopia Research Team (Winter 2007-08) A team of researchers lead by Paleobotanist Bonnie Jacobs and Sedimentologist Neil Tabor, both of SMU, returned to northwestern Ethiopia in late December 2007 to collect additional plant fossils and gain a more thorough understanding of their geological context.
- Heather, Cairo. (Fall 2009) Heather is a senior majoring in history and medieval studies in Dedman College, with a minor in art history in Meadows School of the Arts, and a recipient of the Gilman International Scholarship to Egypt. In Fall 2009, she will continue her studies in Arabic and Egyptology in her second semester at the American University in Cairo.
- Kelsey, SMU-in-Cairo. (Spring 2009) Kelsey is majoring in English, with a minor in political science, in SMU's Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. In Spring 2009, she is participating in SMU-in-Cairo in Egypt, where she will be taking courses in political science and Arabic. She hopes the experience will prepare her for a career in international relations or journalism, and she plans to volunteer with a nonprofit while in Egypt.
- Laura, Rwanda. (Summer 2009) Laura is a senior journalism major in Meadows School of the Arts with minors in art history, photography and human rights. In August 2009 she is participating in the Human Rights Education Program trip to Rwanda, where the group will visit sites including the Nyarubuye Genocide Memorial and Urukundo Home for Children.
- Mustang Consulting, Uganda. (Spring 2010) During Spring Break 2010, students and faculty are volunteering in Uganda with the Ugandan American Partnership Organization (UAPO), a nonprofit founded by SMU graduate Brittany Merrill '07 that supports women and children in their communities.
- Ricardo, Africa. (Summer 2010) Ricardo is a graduate student in geology in the Huffington Department of Earth Sciences in Dedman College. A recipient of the prestigious Fulbright fellowship, Ricardo is spending summer 2010 in Angola and Mozambique.
- Shelby, SMU-in-Cairo. (Spring 2009) Shelby is a junior with majors in history and anthropology, and a minor in classical studies and Latin, in SMU's Dedman College. This Spring she plans to take Egyptology classes at the American University in Cairo, in preparation for a career in Egyptology, and she also is looking forward to traveling and exploring the region.
