On a weekly basis, all Committee Chairs shall attend weekly Student Foundation Board meetings on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., general member meetings on Thursdays at 5 p.m., and a one-on-one meeting with a Vice-President of Programming. In addition, the Committee Chair shall maintain two scheduled office hours each week. Committee Chairs shall also preside over all assigned committee meetings. Lastly, a Committee Chair will plan budget in conjunction with the Director of Finance, President, and Student Foundation advisor. The following is a more detailed description of the individual Committee Chair positions:
Ambassadors
works with the Student Foundation Ambassadors to represent the students of
SMU to faculty, alumni, and guests of the university. Guided by
professionalism, accountability, and integrity, the SF Ambassadors ensure
that the SMU student body is well represented at key university events such
as the Doak Walker Awards Banquet, Distinguished Alumni Awards, Medal of
Freedom presentations, and receptions given by the President of the
University.
Campus Events is responsible for programming two of SMU’s most
exciting all-campus events: Celebration of Lights and Mane Event.
Celebration of Lights brings together students, faculty, staff, and
community members during the winter holiday season. Mane Event is an
outdoor spring event that unites the campus for a day filled with music,
games, food, and more.
Development performs key functions in securing corporate sponsorships
and donations for all Student Foundation events. Vital to the success of
all Student Foundation events, the Development committee contacts various
organization and corporations to obtain donations such as monetary
contributions, food items, Homecoming baskets, and gift certificates.
Family Weekend is responsible for all aspects of SMU’s Family Weekend
held each fall. Events such as the Mothers’ Club Luncheon, Dads’ Club
Barbeque, Student Talent Show, Educational Sessions, Open Houses, and
tailgating on Bishop Boulevard before the football game are all orchestrated
by students to welcome families to the SMU campus.
Homecoming works in cooperation with the SMU Alumni Association
to plan a week-long schedule of activities that cater to students and alumni
alike. Homecoming week events include a campus-wide Community Service Day,
Rock the Vote, parade float building, and King and Queen elections that all
lead up to the big Homecoming game.
Membership is responsible for the organization’s recruitment and
retention of general members, committee coordinators, and board members.
The committee also works to recognize outstanding leadership and commitment
amongst the general membership, coordinate social events for the
organization, and provide weekly themes for the Student Foundation meetings.
Tate provides, coordinates, and carries out the duties of the ushers for all Tate Series lectures. Widely regarded as one of the country's finest platforms for distinguished and engaging discussions, the Tate Lecture Series provides unique opportunities for student interaction, faculty discourse and community debate with both emerging voices as well as leading figures in their fields.
President is responsible for the communication relative to the Student Foundation Board with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and Friends of Student Foundation. The President presides over the executive committee, Student Foundation Board, and Student Foundation general meetings.
Vice-President of Programming both preside and assist four Student Foundation Chair Members. These include the Campus Events Chair, Development Chair, Family Weekend Chair, Homecoming Chair, Marketing Chair, Membership Chair, Tate Lecture Series Chair, and University Advancement Chair.
Director of Administration assists with all of the administrative needs of Student Foundation. The Director of Administration is responsible for recording and disseminating meeting minutes as well as being responsible for all official communications and correspondence. The Director of Administration is in charge of the Student Foundation Webpage and controlling web activity. (Tech savvy applicants with knowledge of web design a plus, but not necessary. Appropriate training will be provided).
Director of Finance will work with individual programming Vice-Presidents and Chairs to develop and manage the committee’s budgets. The Director of Finance shall manage the Student Foundation budget in conjunction with the advisor.
