Transportation and Risk
Fleet Safety Policy 8.8 applies to all employees, prospective employees, and
students, who operate, or will operate, vehicles owned, leased, or loaned to the
University (University Vehicles), which are covered by University insurance. The
Program established under this Policy sets procedures and guidelines for all
operating units within the University and includes the following:
- Maintaining all University Vehicles in a proper and safe operating
condition;
- Ensuring that all University Vehicles meet federal, state, and local
regulations and operating requirements;
- Designating and annually monitoring qualifications for personnel who
operate University Vehicles; and
- Providing training and educational programs designed to enhance safe and
proper driving skills for those subject
to this Policy.
Employees and Students planning to drive a University Vehicle must complete
and submit a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) form to the Office of Risk
Management in advance of their travel. Failure to provide information in
advance of travel may result in withholding University permission to drive
University Vehicles.

- Complete and submit a Motor Vehicle Records form to the Office of Risk
Management prior to travel
- Attend a defensive driving course before travel and least every 3 years.
- Additional training is required to drive a University van. See Van
Safety training
