  • A student’s transferable G.P.A. is considered by the Admissions Committee.
  • If a transferable course is repeated due to a failing grade, all attempted hours and earned grade points will be used to calculate the transferable G.P.A. For repeated courses with grades of C- or above, only the first attempt will be awarded credit.
  • A grade of “W” (withdrawn) will not be used to calculate the transferable G.P.A.
  • A grade of “I” (Incomplete) will be calculated as F. A grade of “IP” (In Progress) for a current term is not calculated.
  • Students may apply for Academic Forgiveness for coursework completed 10 or more years prior to the entry term at SMU.
  • To calculate your transferable G.P.A., add the total number of transferable external hours attempted. Then add the total number of grade points for those hours. Divide the number of grade points by the total number of hours attempted.

If you have 50 or more transferable credit hours and a high G.P.A., find out about SMU scholarship opportunities for transfer students.
