MANDYAM D. SRINATH
Mandyam D. Srinath, Professor of Electrical
Engineering in the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering, earned the B.Sc. degree
from the University of Mysore in India, the D.I.I.Sc. (E. T.) from the Indian
Institute of Science and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois,
Urbana. He joined the SMU faculty in 1967 and later served as associate chair
and interim chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Professor
Srinath's research concentrations have included control and adaptive systems,
detection and estimation theory, digital signal processing, neural networks,
image processing and video coding. He has published numerous papers in these
areas and has co-authored two textbooks that have been translated into Chinese,
Spanish and Korean. His research was supported by industry and several agencies,
including the National Science Foundation, Air Force Office of Scientific
Research, Defense Communications Agency, Office of Naval Research, Texas
Instruments Inc. and Nokia Research Center. A dedicated teacher as well as
researcher, he has been honored with the School of Engineering's Outstanding
Graduate Professor Award. He has served on the Academic Policies Committee of
the Faculty Senate, the University Academic Program Evaluation Committee and
several school-wide and departmental committees. He has supervised 45 Ph.D.
student dissertations. He retires as Professor Emeritus of Electrical
Engineering.
