Instructions for Honor Society Inductees
- On Monday, April 21, please report to the basement of McFarlin Auditorium by 4:45 p.m. [In case of inclement weather, please report to the second floor lobby of McFarlin Auditorium.]
- You will be handed an index card listing your name and the honor society in which you are being inducted. This card will be handed to the announcer as you cross the stage during the ceremony. Please do not lose this card!
- Proctors and Marshals will line you up in the order in which you are to cross the stage.
- The academic procession will begin at 5:25 p.m.
- Your march to the stage will be conducted by the Marshals. As you come onto the stage, you will hand your index card to the lector; he will read your name and the honor society in which you are being inducted and keep the card. You will then receive congratulations from both the Provost and the President. [Note: If you are being inducted into more than one honor society, line up with the society in which you would like to sit, and the other society name(s) will also be listed on the index card and the announcer will read the second/third honor society name while you are on stage.]
- You will be given a lapel pin on stage to commemorate the occasion.
- Please return to your seat after leaving the stage.
- The ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. and should last a little over an hour.
- A reception for you and your guests immediately follows the ceremony in the Grand Ballroom of the Umphrey Lee Center.
- SMU does not provide a location, nor are they responsible, for backpacks, purses, or other personal belongings during the ceremony.
Instructions for Departmental Awardees
- On Monday, April 21, please report to the first floor of Dallas Hall by 4:45 p.m. [In case of inclement weather, please report to the basement of McFarlin Auditorium.]
- If you are marching with Dedman College, you will line up in the west wing; if you are marching with Cox, Meadows, or Engineering you will line up in the east wing.
- You will be handed an index card listing the award you are to receive. This card will be handed to the announcer as you cross the stage during the ceremony. Please do not lose this card!
