Thank you for your interest in SMU Cheer! Southern Methodist University offers a well-rounded collegiate cheerleading experience and an excellent opportunity to show your school spirit.
The SMU Cheerleading squad is a highly competitive team consisting of 20 to 30 young men and women. Twenty of the teams members compete at NCA College Nationals held in Daytona Beach, Florida every year. This highly spirited and skilled squad cheers at all home football games and some away football games, bowl games, men's and women's home basketball games, volleyball games, and tournament play. Members of the cheerleading squad are also frequently seen on and off campus for appearances and opportunities to show their Mustang Spirit!
Members of the cheer squad are required to participate in fundraisers as they become available.
If you could like to request an appearance by the SMU Cheerleading squad please contact the SMU Cheer coach at tfetting@smu.edu.

Members of the cheerleading squad that are in good academic standing and perform advanced skills receive a book stipend and have an opportunity to earn a larger tuition scholarship for members selected through an application process. Please contact the SMU cheer coach, Tiffany Fettinger, regarding this opportunity.

Live tryouts will be held May 3 to May 4 at the Dedman Center.
May 3, Friday 6-9PM
May 4, Saturday Warm-ups 9AM
Tryouts 10AM
Tryouts are CLOSED to the public.
The required skills for the 2013-2014 tryouts are a standing back tuck, a standing back handspring back tuck, and a round off back handspring back tuck. It is also essential that you fly or base advanced stunts (full ups, tick tocks, rewinds, body position double downs). It is not required for you to know how to do all college stunts at tryouts, but you need to display the ability to learn these stunts and proper technique in the stunts you perform. Your appearance, jumps, attitude, enthusiasm and cheer/chant performance are also factors in the tryout process.
