Activities at the Hilltop Sports Camp
will be lead by professional staff members in the Recreational
Sports Department and by SMU student leaders. Below you will find a
little information about our staff members.

Sarah Morgan - Associate
Director, Events/Camps Director Sarah completed her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at the University of Kansas in 2002 and her Masters in Library and Information Science at the University of North Texas in 2005. She was involved in aquatics programming and instruction with the City of Lawrence, KS during her time at KU and also worked with special populations teaching aquatics and assisting with special events. Sarah’s camp specific experiences include attending summer camp in Colorado through junior high and high school, working as an intern at a 6-week summer camp in Oklahoma, serving as a waterfront counselor at a residential 8-week camp in New Hampshire and working as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and counselor at several day camps in Kansas. This is her fourth year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |

David Chambers - Associate Director,
Programs/Outdoor Adventure Climbing Wall/Games David Chambers began his career in outdoor recreation and education in 1991. He has worked in the field of outdoor recreation as a counselor, program administrator, guide, and instructor with various age groups through wilderness therapy programs, summer camps, and college outdoor recreation programs. After earning a Masters in Education with emphasis in Outdoor Education in 1999, he has concentrated his career on college outdoor recreation programming and raising a family. Since 2004, David has managed the SMU Outdoor Adventures program including the indoor climbing wall. This is his fourth year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |

Albert Mitugo -
Outdoor Adventures Assistant Manager Climbing Wall/Games Albert has been involved in Outdoor Education and Recreation for the last 14 years. He was a senior Field Instructor with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) before coming to work at SMU. He has also in the past worked as a Naturalist, Safari guide and Mountaineer in E. Africa, been a Wildlife Research Assistant and has worked with Study Abroad programs for various colleges. He has worked with kids of various ages in outdoor settings as well. Albert has a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and is currently pursuing his Masters in Educational Leadership at SMU. He was introduced to Hilltop Sports Camp last year. |

Brook Benton Jimenez -
Assistant
Director, Fitness Fitness Brook began her fitness career in the late 90's. She received a Bachelor’s of Science from Texas State University in Exercise & Sport Science, and a Master’s of Education in Physical Education from The University of Houston. Her experiences with children include: teaching 1st and 2nd grade Vacation Bible School, coaching baton twirling camp, and teaching K-4th Adaptive Physical Education. She has several certifications as a group exercise leader and personal trainer. In 2004, Brook began presenting fitness workshops, and was recognized by the American Council on Exercise and the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America as a “Continuing Education Specialist.” Brook is currently studying to become a certified nutrition consultant. This is her fourth year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |

Gina Garcia - Personal
Training Coordinator Fitness Gina completed her undergraduate degree in physical education the University of Russia in 1995. She began her fitness career in the mid-90's working at a Russian pre-school. Her professional experiences with children include: teaching 1st through 10th grade Physical Education at a school in Russia and coaching a soccer team of 1st through 3rd graders. She has several certifications as a group exercise instructor, children specialist instructor and personal trainer specialist. In 2003, Gina worked at the Jungle Gym with children 3 months – 6 years old, and has planned exercise programs that include age specific educational games. Gina is currently managing the Personal Training and Massage Therapy programs at SMU. This is her third year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |

Jack Harper - Assistant
Director, Intramurals/Sport Clubs Sports Jack became involved in youth sports in the mid-90’s, and has been involved in numerous ways ever since. Jack spent years in the Boys Scouts of America earning the rank of Eagle Scout and spending many summers at camps. He enjoys helping youth develop coordination and skills related to sport activities. He received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise & Sport Sciences from Texas Tech University and a Master of Science in and continues to stay involved in sporting events for all age groups as a game official for numerous different activities. This is his fourth year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |

Chris Coleman -
Assistant Manager, Intramurals and Sport Clubs Sports Chris earned his Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 2008 and is currently in the process of obtaining his MBA from SMU Cox School of Business. He has been involved in campus recreation for over 5 years and has worked children’s camps with the Tulsa County Parks and Recreation. He has been involved in teaching sports skills as a youth club coach. This is his first year working with Hilltop Sports Camps. |

Tracy Veliz
- Assistant Director, Facilities Daily Special/Crafts Tracy began her aquatics career in 2000. She received a Bachelor’s of Arts from The University of Texas in Arlington in Public Relations and a Master’s of Liberal Studies from Southern Methodist University. Her experience with children includes tutoring at an after school program and teaching American Red Cross swimming lessons. This is her fourth year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |

Tony Bates
- Aquatics Coordinator Swimming Tony started as a lifeguard in 1998 and has been in Aquatics ever since. He eventually went on to manage a local water park before arriving at SMU. Tony has experience with youth programming, swim instruction, and lifeguard/water safety instruction for children of all ages. Additionally, Tony has initiated programs for members of the community with special needs and their families. Tony received a B.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2006 and is currently in the process of obtaining his J.D. at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. This is his second year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |

Ty McDonald
- Assistant Aquatics Manager Swimming Ty earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Howard Payne University in 2008. He began lifeguarding in 2003 and has continued in the field of aquatics ever since. He works with children on a day to day basis through the swim lesson program at the SMU Dedman Center. He has also been involved in various tennis camps for children over the past several years. This is his first year working with Hilltop Sports Camp. |
