2012 Professional Staff

Activities at the Hilltop Sports Camp will be lead by professional staff members in the Recreational Sports Department and by SMU student leaders. Below you will find a little information about our staff members.

Ty McDonald Ty McDonald - Director
Aquatics
Ty earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Howard Payne University in 2008. He began lifeguarding in 2003 and has continued in the field of aquatics ever since. He works with children on a day to day basis through the swim lesson program at the SMU Dedman Center. He has also been involved in various tennis camps for children over the past several years. This is his fourth year working with Hilltop.
   
David Chambers David Chambers - Associate Director, Programs
Climbing Wall/Games

David Chambers began his career in outdoor recreation and education in 1991.  He has worked in the field of outdoor recreation as a counselor, program administrator, guide, and instructor with various age groups through wilderness therapy programs, summer camps, and college outdoor recreation programs.  After earning a Masters in Education with emphasis in Outdoor Education in 1999, he has concentrated his career on college outdoor recreation programming and raising a family.  Since 2004, David has managed the SMU Outdoor Adventures program including the indoor climbing wall. This is his sixth year working with Hilltop.
Albert Mitugo Albert Mitugo - Outdoor Adventures Senior Coordinator
Climbing Wall/Games
Albert has been involved in Outdoor Education and Recreation for the last 16 years. He was a senior Field Instructor with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) before coming to work at SMU. He has also in the past worked as a Naturalist, Safari guide and Mountaineer in E. Africa, been a Wildlife Research Assistant and has worked with Study Abroad programs for various Colleges. He has worked with kids of various ages in outdoor settings as well. Albert has both a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a Masters in Educational Leadership from SMU. This is his fifth year working with Hilltop.
Gina Garcia Gina Garcia - Personal Training Coordinator
Fitness
Gina completed her undergraduate degree in physical education the University of Russia in 1995. She began her fitness career in the mid-90's working at a Russian pre-school. Her professional experiences with children include: teaching 1st through 10th grade Physical Education at a school in Russia and coaching a soccer team of 1st through 3rd graders. She has several certifications as a group exercise instructor, children specialist instructor and personal trainer specialist. In 2003, Gina worked at the Jungle Gym with children 3 months – 6 years old, and has planned exercise programs that include age specific educational games. Gina is currently managing the Personal Training and Massage Therapy programs at SMU. This is her fourth year working with Hilltop.
Jack Harper Jack Harper - Assistant Director, Intramurals/Sport Clubs
Intramural Sports
Jack became involved in youth sports in the mid-90’s, and has been involved in numerous ways ever since. Jack spent years in the Boys Scouts of America earning the rank of Eagle Scout and spending many summers at camps. He enjoys helping youth develop coordination and skills related to sport activities. He received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise & Sport Sciences from Texas Tech University and a Master of Science in  and continues to stay involved in sporting events for all age groups as a game official for numerous different activities. This is his sixth year working with Hilltop.
