Club Sports
Introduction
Our Mission is to provide a broad-based structured program
promoting individual development through recreational, competitive,
and instructional sports opportunities.
Sport Clubs, under the guidance of Student Organizations, at Southern Methodist University seek to provide a broad-based program of recreational, competitive and instructional sport opportunities. The Sport Club Program is designed to promote participation in a wider variety of sport activities, complimenting the university's intramural, intercollegiate, and wellness programs. Its student members administer each Sport Club.
Experience is not required to join any of the sport clubs listed below. Often, many students that are members of the various clubs have never participated in their respective sport prior to college. Tryouts are held for some of the sport clubs, in most cases, all those trying out will make the club.
The competitive sport clubs such as Rugby, Lacrosse and Soccer often travel to and compete against other regional and national colleges including UT-Austin, Texas A&M, Rice and Baylor to name a few. Opponents also include other amateur clubs in the region.
If none of these clubs interest you, students may always start another sport club. For example, the Soccer Club is only one year old. If you have an interest that you feel others would share, starting a new club may be just the thing to do.
