Mr. & Ms. SMU Bodybuilding & Fitness Contest Information
Date & Time: Wednesday April 16, 2008. Contest begins at 6:00p.m.
Location: Hughes-Trigg Theater (lower level) Southern Methodist University Campus
Divisions: Mr.
SMU (may be contested in two height classes)
Ms. SMU (to be contested in a single class)
Awards: Trophies will be awarded for first through fourth place in each class, with an overall trophy to be awarded where the division contains more than one class. Height class limits may be adjusted, the number of classes may be expanded or contracted and/or the number of place awards expanded as warranted, based on the number of contestants. An award will be made in each division for Best Poser. Mr. and Ms. SMU Champions will have their picture posted on the “Wall of Champions” in the Dedman Recreation Center.
Eligibility: This contest is open to any athlete who is a registered, full-time student at Southern Methodist University (12 hours for undergraduates and 6 hours for masters/doctoral candidates). Exception: Graduating Seniors finishing off their final requirements may also enter. Previous winners of the overall title in the Mr./Ms. SMU or any national Senior title (i.e. NPC, AAU, etc.) will not be allowed to enter. This is a natural contest: Contestants shall have attained their state of development without the use of steroids, hormones, or other hyperthropic or anabolic drugs, agents, or substances. This eligibility requirement will be enforced by means of polygraph and/or urinalysis to be conducted between check-in and immediately after the conclusion of the competition. Contestants who refuse to cooperate in the procedures necessary to ensure drug free competition shall be automatically disqualified from participation.
Contest Rules: This contest will be conducted in accordance with the rules set forth by the SMU Recreational Sports Department. All rule interpretations, judgments and enforcement will be solely determined by the Contest Director- Tim Moore.
A) Dress Code: The men's posing suit must be competition style or one solid color with no emblems or design. Women's posing suits must be a solid color two piece bikini with no cutouts, emblems or designs. It will reveal the abdominal and lower back development but will not reveal the gluts (no thong). Manufacturers’ marks must be covered (i.e. Speedo). No jewelry, hair ornaments, earrings, beads, feathers, glitter, or other embellishments or objects shall be worn or carried on-stage. Light oil will be permitted. Bare feet only.
B) Mandatory Posing: Mandatory poses consist of the following:
1 Front double biceps
2 Front Lat Spread
3 Left and Right Quadriceps
4 Side Biceps
5 Side Triceps
6 Rear Lat Spread
7 Rear double biceps
8 Calves
9 Abdominals
10 Most Muscular
C) Routines: Individual posing routines shall not exceed ninety seconds. Routines must be in good taste, void of any obscene gestures. Males and females are given wide flexibility as to the style and content of their routines. Push-ups, dancing, displays of flexibility, and even humor are all acceptable. However, Tumbling (flip-flops, back hand springs, standing back tucks, etc.) is not allowed. Although some of the female competitors may choose to do a "fitness pageant" type routine, they must wear the same bikini throughout the competition. Although crowd reaction can influence the judges, please note that judging is based on physique, not entertainment.
D) Music: To accompany individual posing, contestants shall provide their own music recorded on a high-quality cassette tape, cued to begin or burned as the only song on a CD. Music may use sound effects and may be edited with several song. Music must be fade or cut after 90 seconds. (Contestants are advised to bring a back-up tape/CD) Music must be in good taste with no obscene language (radio edit version.
Contest Schedule:
The contest will be divided into four parts: Mandatory poses, Individual
routine, Comparison poses, Final pose down.
A) In the mandatory poses section of the event, all competitors in a gender
group will go on stage together. The MC of the event will call out a series of
standard poses (i.e. "gentlemen, show us a double biceps"). Please note that
the contest director will review all the standard poses in the pre-contest
briefing.
B) In the second section, competitors will perform their own posing
routine using music of their choice. Creativity and content of the
routines are up to the individual,( traditional poses to fitness pageant style)
however, they must be in good taste. Please note that the Hughes-Trigg
stage is not extremely large.
C) In the next stage, the competitors in a gender group will, once again, go on
stage together. The judges may ask to rearrange the competitors so that they
can compare individuals side by side. Mandatory poses will be called out again.
D) The final stage of the competition is the 30 second pose down. This is your
last chance to make an impression with the judges. Competitors will do their
own poses and show off their best features. This is also when the crowd yells
and screams and try to influence the judges.
After these four stages, Medallions and trophies will be awarded.
Entry Fee: An entry fee of $20 must accompany the completed entry form. Entries are due (either by mail or hand delivered) at the Recreational Sports Office by 5:00p.m, Wednesday, April 9th. Entry Forms may be picked up at the Dedman Recreation Office or in Dedman Weight Room. Drop off entries - Tim Moore, Box 161, Dedman Recreation Center, Dallas, TX 75275. Late entry fee is an additional $10.00.
Schedule: Contestants must check in at Hughes-Trigg Theater no later than 5:00p.m on Wednesday, April 16th. After completion of processing, number assignment, and a pre-contest briefing, contestants shall report back to Hughes-Trigg Theater by 5:45p.m.. Random drug testing will be held the week before the contest and will be arranged by Tim Moore. The winner of the contest may be tested in the week following the contest. The contest will not be pre-judged. The evening show will begin at 6:00p.m.
Audience: Fans, family and
friends will be admitted to Hughes-Trigg Theater beginning at
5:30p.m. Admission is free.
