Who Should Join/More About the Team
The club is open to all men attending SMU. The skill level is very competitive. We are looking for good players who played in high school or
have international experience and
have the skills to be competitive in top collegiate division men's league play.
Practice and Game Times
Practices will be tentatively held on Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm on the
Intramural Field. Any SMU Student is invited to come play with us during
practice/ scrimmages, (even if you tried-out and did not make either team).
Game times may vary, but we expect you to be at every game. Game days
and times will be posted above, but are generally on Saturdays and Sundays
between 11am-2pm. There is a
time commitment to be on the First Division due to the travel. Do
NOT tryout if you are not committed to being at practices and games. If
you cannot make a practice or game- notice must be given (by phone) to a club
officer 24 hours prior to the game (in the event of an away game- 24 hours prior
to the travel departure). Failure to attend or give 24 hour notice will result
in losing your spot on the team and forfeit of your club dues.
Club History
In the Spring of 1999, Starbuck Laney and Mike Duffy decided that they wanted to play soccer again. They started out by trying to get in the Men's League - Division 1 of the North Texas Premier Soccer Association (NTPSA).
Then, they figured that they might as well form a team with SMU guys and this
led them to contacting the Recreational Sports office for some help. It moved
forward slowly and after a whole lot of work they pulled together a team and
eventually got money from Student Senate. In 2002, SMU won the Men's League
-Division 3 NTPSA losing only one game all season. The club followed that
season by winning the Division 2 Men's League in 2003. The club fell just
short of winning the Division 1 championship in 2004. The club then joined the
Texas Collegiate Soccer League in 2005 and compete against regional universities
(UT, TA&M, Texas Tech, Texas State, etc.). In 2006 the club finished at
the top of their division and qualified to go to the National Collegiate
Championships in Arizona where they made a big impact, defeating a previous
national champion and winning several games.
