Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons

SMU Aquatics offers private swim lessons for children and adults of all ages and abilities. These lessons are designed for non-swimmers, beginning swimmers or for those at a higher level in need of stroke refinement. The instructor will be in the water to demonstrate each stroke.

Lesson duration: All lessons are 30 minutes in length.

*Private Lessons: One student per instructor.

  • Cost per session: $40
  • 5-pack: $175
  • 10-pack: $275

Semi-Private Lessons: Two students per instructor.  The SMU Aquatics program does not match students for semi-private lessons; participants are responsible for finding their own partners for semi-private lessons.

  • 5-pack: $250
  • 10-pack: $400

*In addition to the swim lesson fee, adult participants who are not members of the Dedman Center must pay the guest fee of $10 for each lesson in order to enter the facility.

Scheduling lessons- Private lessons will be initially arranged through the Aquatics Coordinator or Assistant Manager. Once the student is matched with an instructor, the instructor will contact the student within three days to set up a time that is convenient for both parties. The instructor and student will set up additional lessons based upon their availability.

Cancelling lessons- Students must notify their instructor by email at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule a lesson.  If the student fails to do this, that lesson will be forfeited.  If a student no-shows, he/she will still be charged for that session.  There will be NO REFUNDS and NO EXCEPTIONS. Students are able to put lessons on “hold” until the student is able to utilize them with prior arrangements. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the Aquatics Coordinator with this information.

Tardy student- If a student is late for a lesson, the length of the lesson is shortened by that amount of time.  For instance, if a student signs up for a 30-minute lesson and is 10-minutes late, the lesson will only last 20-minutes.  There will be no discount for this remission.

Tardy instructor- If an instructor is over 5-minutes late for any lesson, he/she will give that student a complimentary 30-minute lesson, in addition to # of lessons already purchased.

Dissatisfaction with assigned instructor- If a student is not satisfied after the FIRST lesson with the instructor he/she is assigned to, he/she can be reassigned to a new instructor at no additional cost and one complimentary lesson will be added with the new instructor.  If the student waits until all lessons have been completed to request a new instructor, there will be no reimbursement or reassignment (free of charge).

**Please Note- Children are only allowed in the pool during their scheduled lessons.  Swimming is not allowed in the indoor pool before or after lessons.  The Falls area is prohibited to minors at all times, excluding family hours for Dedman Center Members.
