DESCRIPTION:
Inner Space Cavern was discovered by a Texas Highway Department core drilling team in the Spring of 1963. While drilling through 40 feet of solid limestone, the bit broke into what is now known as Inner Space Cavern. An adventurous employee of the highway department was lowered into the hole while standing on the drill bit and holding tightly to the stem. He was the first human being to enter INNER SPACE. What an exciting voyage this must have been! |

A
real natural gem in the middle of Oklahoma, the Wichita Wildlife
Refuge is a small mountain range in the middle of prairie.
It contains some unique geological formations and a great trail
system for day hiking. Bring a small backpack and at least
2-1 liter bottles for water. Once on the trails, drinking
water is relatively non-existent. Weather plays a big role
on this trip with spring thunderstorms posing a real threat as
well as varied temperatures this time of year. Our group will arrive on Saturday morning after a 5+ hour drive from campus. Camp is primitive but modern facilities will be a short walk away. Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning will be day hikes through varied terrains with some great views. Along the way, expect to see some of the year-round residents like free-roaming longhorn cattle, elk, buffalo, deer and other natural species to the plains. Because this is a refuge, many of the animals have little fear of humans making it a great opportunity for photography. |

Canoeing began to meet the simple needs of transportation across and along waterways. Canoeing was the primary mode of long-distance transportation at one time throughout much of North America, the Amazon Basin, and Polynesia, among other locations. As a method of transportation, canoes have generally been replaced by motorized boats, etc., although they remain popular as recreational or sporting watercraft. Come and experience these watercraft through the OA as you enjoy the outdoors and camping. |
