Richter Research Fellows and senior President's Scholars Hannah Bliss and Lashlee Warner studied the quality of health care for African immigrants in the south of Spain.
Andy Lin is a senior Presidentís Scholar majoring in biology and geology in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. During fall 2011, he was studying abroad in Sydney, Australia.
Esther Liu is a senior Presidentís Scholar majoring in communication studies in Meadows School of the Arts and management science in the Lyle School of Engineering. In fall 2011 she was studying in Switzerland, learning more about the Swiss-Italian culture in the Ticino region where she was living.
Raamis Khwaja is a sophomore Presidentís Scholar majoring in biology in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. During summer 2012, he is traveling to Aligahr, India, as a Richter Fellow to conduct research on water contamination, child psychology and public health in a slum.

Saira Husain, a recent Presidentís Scholar alum ('12), majored in biology and anthropology in Dedman College. She received a Richter Fellowship to travel to Peshawar, Pakistan, during winter break 2012 to research the health of Afghani refugee children. Then during spring 2012, she interned with the U.S. Department of State.

Seven members of SMUís recently formed Student Leadership Initiative (SLI) were in Rwanda, Uganda and Johannesburg during May 2012. They included President's Scholars Michael Dearman (junior), Hayley Wagner (junior), Katie Schaible (sophomore), Allison Leopold (junior), Ketetha Olengue (sophomore) and recent Presidentís Scholar alums, Corbin Swagerty ('12) and Amanda Koons ('12). The students were researching human rights issues and empowerment solutions for three African countries recovering from decades of genocide, war, famine, disease and apartheid.
