The Presidentís Commission on Substance Abuse Prevention

The Presidentís Commission on Substance Abuse Prevention continues the work of the 2007 Ė 2008 Presidentís Task Force on Substance Abuse Prevention. This Commission is comprised of students, faculty and staff who meet regularly during the academic year to monitor and assess the implementation of the Task Force recommendations and to identify issues for further or additional review. The Commission is co-chaired by the Provost and the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Recently, the Commission enhanced its range of focus to review best practices in assessing if its measures undertaken to educate and reduce substance abuse are effective. This new direction led the Commission to make the decision to apply for membership in the National College Health Improvement Project Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking (NCHIP).

This Collaborative was founded by The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and includes a membership of 32 colleges and universities from across all geographical regions of the United States.

The mission of the Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking is to improve the health of the college student population using proven, evidence-based practices.

The objective of the Learning Collaborative is to work together to effect measurable change in reducing the rate of high-risk drinking at participant institutions, as well as the harms that result from this behavior.
