2004 TRENCHES PC 23
& 25
Robert Vander Poppen, Field Supervisor
Martha Reichert, Assistant Field Supervisor
Week 2:

Virginia Lewis and Kamissa Mort in PC 23.
Last season, in the northeast corner of
the site we had discovered a firepit characterized by a fill
of charcoal and ashy soil. The remnants of the fire had burned
the soil in the area turning the border of the pit a bright red
color. This year we will work to understand the relationship
between the fire pit and the altar blocks to the south. Our current
understanding is that the pit follows the use of the blocks,
but this season's excavation will serve to clarify the arrangement.
Hopefully this season will help to clarify the sequence of building
and the soil relationships in these areas.
