2001 TRENCH PC 18
Kate Topper, Field
Supervisor
Week 3:

Kate Topper
constructing a sifter for Trench PC 18.
We have spent the past week excavating
stratum 4, our largest stratum to date. The artifacts from this
stratum, as from the first three strata, consist primarily of
pottery and roof tile that have washed down from the top of the
hill and that therefore lack a useful archaeological context.
I expect that within the next few days, we will be able to begin
excavating stratum 5, the stratum that produced several pieces
of late Orientalizing and early Archaic pottery at the end of
last season and the beginning of this one.
