2004 TRENCHES PF 5E, 10, & 15
Katherine Blanchard, Field Supervisor
Laura Crowley, Assistant Field Supervisor

Week 1:

The middle of the second week of excavation the site is unbackfilled and the students have all rotated amongst the trenches. Jargon has become commonplace and no longer accompanies puzzled looks. Levels have been taken, triangulation is second nature, and most students can now take a mean flat pass. Trenches PF 10, PF 15, and PF 5E have all been reopened on the exterior of the structure in the Podere Funghi. At the close of last season, a series of circular carbon features (likely postholes) were found on the exterior of the structure in the vicinity of a floor level. From this rose a series of questions, as we were not expecting large amounts of Etruscan activity on the exterior. These three trenches have been reopened to investigate the finds at the end of last season in relation to the wall as well as each other.
