ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Discarica

A landfill proposed by the city of Florence for a site in a pristine section of the Mugello Valley will destroy wildlife habitats and farmland, and it will drain into the watershed of the Sieve River (ironically carrying contaminated water back to Florence). This page has photos of the area that will be destroyed by the landfill. Numerous residents and land owners of the Mugello Valley oppose the dump (discarica) and the negative impact it will have on the environment. Moreover, a geological study of the area deemed the site unsuitable for such a landfill. We at the Mugello Valley Archaeological Project support the opponents of the discarica. Please voice your concerns with international environmental advocacy groups and provide them with the address of this web site.
