Research

Hiltz has explored Wittgensteinian and pragmatist themes subversive of traditional metaphysics of meaning, and has interests in political philosophy and several issues in the philosophy of mind. He currently struggles vainly against the charms of quietism, and restricts his energies to making life hard for those with an actual research program.

Teaching

  • Philosophy 1305: Introduction to Philosophy
  • Philosophy 1317: Business Ethics
  • Philosophy 1318: Contemporary Moral Problems
  • Philosophy 3333: Topics in Philosophy: Existentialism
  • Philosophy 3352: History of Philosophy: Early Modern Era
  • Philosophy 3371: Social and Political Philosophy: Ethics, Justice, and the State
  • Philosophy 3382: American Philosophy: Pragmatism

Other than that

Hiltz has dabbled in poetry, and from time to time produces pages that could one day amount to a novel. He played alto saxophone as a hobby until his embouchure and back went south on him. The time formerly devoted to that pursuit is now spent playing poker.
