The SMU Police Department works diligently to promote the security of our campus community through a variety of services and programs which are conducive to the support of the learning that occurs in the classroom.
With approximately 2,400 students reside on campus in residence halls, apartments and Greek houses, SMU remains committed to providing an exceptional residential experience of living and learning together. Though general information about Residence Hall Security is available, we encourage you to visit the Residence Life & Student Housing website for specific information about how to stay safe.
From on-campus magazine sales to workplace safety, these personal safety tips will help ensure your security on and off the SMU campus.
As an on-going effort, SMU has developed an Emergency Plan. Part of the plan is to inform our community of how to respond in the event of an emergency. Knowing What To Do in an emergency situation will help keep the SMU community safe and secure.
Free campus rides are available from the Park 'N Pony's Giddy Up safety escort service or the SMU Police Department (when Giddy Up drivers are unavailable).
The SMU Police Department’s procedures require an immediate response to emergency calls. We work closely with the full range of City and County emergency resources to assure a complete and timely response to all emergency calls.
In order to keep the SMU community informed about safety and security issues, timely warnings are issued on a case-by-case basis via the SMU Police Department Crime Alert website and SMU Police Department blog. For immediate updates, subscribe to the SMU Police Department RSS feed.
