Crime log case numbers do not run sequentially.  The SMU Police Department assigns a case number for all reportable activities, both criminal and non-criminal.  Only case numbers generated for criminal activity are listed in the crime log.

MAY 1

100511    12:38 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    3062 SMU/Alley.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.     Closed.

100513    1:57 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Cockrell Hall/5905 Ownby Drive.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.      Closed.

100514    2:23 AM.    Assault:    3000 Binkley Avenue.    A student was arrested and booked into University Park jail for assaulting another student.     Closed.

100517    6:47 PM.    Theft:    Morrison Hall/6004 Bishop Blvd.    A student reported theft of his laptop.        Open. 

100518    9:24 PM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Misrepresentation of Age by a Minor:    Boaz Hall/3200 Binkley Avenue.    A student was issued a University Park citation and referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.  The student was also referred to the Student Conduct Office for admitting of using another person's ID to purchase alcoholic beverages.    Closed.

100519    9:59 PM.    Criminal Mischief/Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Boaz Hall/3200 Binkley Avenue.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking and for property damage.    Closed.

100520    10:25 PM.    Criminal Mischief:    Hillcrest Manor Apartment/3300 Daniel Avenue.    A student reported damage to his vehicle.    Open.

100521    11:27 PM.    Criminal Mischief:    McElvaney Hall/600 Bishop Blvd.    The corner molding was torn off the wall on the third floor hallway.    Open.

100522    11:58 PM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    3000 Binkley Avenue.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.  Closed.

100523    2:28 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  3000 Binkley Avenue.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.     Closed.

100524    4:48 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Hillcrest Manor Apartments Parking Lot.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.    Closed.

100525    7:18  PM.    Fire:    Umphrey Lee Center/3300 Dyer Street.    A police officer responded to a report of a burning trash can.  The officer observed smoke coming from inside the can and extinguished the fire out.    Closed.

100526    7:37 PM.    Assist Other Agency/Public Intoxication/Resisting Arrest:    Off Campus/Intersection of McFarlin & Dickens .    University Park Police arrested and booked in a student for being intoxicated in a public place and for resisting arrest.    Closed.


MAY 3

100527    4:43 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    McElvaney Hall/6000 Bishop Blvd.    Security guard reported graffiti on the walls and elevator.    Open.

100530    11:37 AM.    Fire Alarm:    Sigma Alpha Epsilon/3005 Dyer Court.    The fire alarm was set off by shower steam.  The panel was reset with no further incident.    Closed.


MAY 4

100531    7:49 AM.    Arson:    McElvaney Hall/6000 Bishop Blvd.    A staff member reported fire damage to a door.  A paper attached to the door was set on fire.    Open.

100532    9:28 AM.    Theft:    Umphrey Lee Center/3300 Dyer.    A staff member reported theft of his cell phone.    Open.

100534    8:45 AM.    Fire Alarm:    Pi Kappa Alpha/3035 Dyer Street.    University Park Fire Marshall and Fire Safety Officer responded to an active fire alarm caused by smoke.  It was determined a pan on the stove with burned food was found to be the source of the smoke. The doors and windows were opened to ventilate the smoke and the fire panel was reset with no further incident.    Closed.

100535    12:05 AM.    Theft:    Fondren Library/6414 Hyer Lane.   A student reported theft of his laptop computer.    Open.

100537    12:30 AM.    Theft:    Fondren Library/6414 Hyer Lane.     A student reported theft of his textbook.    Open.


MAY 6

100540    3:35 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Pi Kappa Alpha/3035 Dyer Street.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm.  It was determined it was caused by a full dryer lent trap.    UPFD reset the fire panel and cleared with no further incident.    Closed.

100543    11:35 PM.    Public Intoxication:    Beta Theta Pi House/3058 SMU Blvd.        A student was arrested, booked into University Park jail and referred to the Student Conduct Office for being intoxicated in a public place.    Closed.

100544    11:59 AM.    Fire Alarm:    Sigma Phi Epsilon/3050 SMU Blvd.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm.  It was determined it was caused by a student who was steaming clothes underneath the smoke detector.  The fire alarm was reset and UPFD cleared with no further incident.


MAY 7

100547    3:59 AM.    Public Intoxication/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:    3000 Daniel Avenue.    A student was issued a University Park citation, arrested, and referred to the Student Conduct Office for being intoxicated in a public place and for possessing a fake ID.        Closed.

100548    12:28 PM.    Burglary of Vehicle:    South Quad Lot/6000 Ownby Drive.    A student reported theft of his backpack which contained a TI-83 calculator, headphones and a textbook.    Open.

100551    8:28 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Multicultural House/3105 Fondren.   University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm.  UPFD determined the cause of fire was burnt food in a microwave.  UPFD reset the fire panel and cleared with no further incident.    Closed.

100553    9:27 PM.    Theft:    Dallas Hall/3225 University Blvd.    A student reported theft of a faux fingerprint card, mug shot card and an essay.    Open.

100554    1:51 AM.    Disorderly Conduct:    Main Quad.   A student was referred to the Student Conduct office for disorderly conduct.    Closed.

100555    1:05 PM.    Theft:    Highland Park United Methodist Church/3300 Mockingbird Lane.    A police officer reported theft of his portable police radio.    Open.

100556    3:26 PM.    Theft:    SMU Bookstore/Barnes & Nobles/3060 Mockingbird Lane.    A student reported theft of her textbooks.    Open.

100557    12:21 AM.    Theft:    Beta Theta Pi House/3058 SMU Blvd.    A student reported theft of a fraternity crest plaque.    Open.

100558    12:42 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Owens Fine Art Center Parking Lot.     A police officer reported the entrance/exit gate was damaged.    Open.

100559    5:21 AM.    Theft:   Fondren Library/6414 Hyer Lane.     A student reported theft of cash from his wallet.    Open.

100560    11:05 AM.    Theft:    Fincher Bldg./6212 Bishop Blvd.    A staff member reported theft of two bottles of wine.    Open.

100561    11:51 AM.    Burglary of a Building:    Owens Arts Center/6101 Bishop Blvd.    A staff member reported theft of a laptop computer.    Open.

100564    1:48 PM.    Fire:    Blanton Building/6185 Airline Rd.     A student reported the cigarette trash can was smoldering.  The police extinguished the fire.  Closed.

100565    2:17 PM.    Fire Alarm:    SMU Bookstore/Barnes & Noble/3060 SMU Blvd.    University Park dispatched informed SMU PD of a smoldering trash can.  SMU Police responded and a bookstore employee had extinguished the fire.    Closed.

100568    6:15 PM.    Theft:    SMU Bookstore/Barnes & Noble/3060 Mockingbird Lane.    A staff member reported theft of property.    Open.


MAY 11

100570    8:59 AM.    Burglary of a Building  Owens Arts Center/6101 Bishop Blvd.    A student reported theft of art paintings from a studio.    Open.

100571    9:11 AM.    Burglary of a Building:    Owens Arts Center/6101 Bishop Blvd.    A student reported theft of her self portrait oil painting.    Open. 

100573    12:19 PM.    Failure to Leave ID and Render Aid:    Fondren Parking Lot/3110 University Blvd.    A pedestrian identified as a student was struck by a moving vehicle who left the scene.    Open.

100574    1:36 PM.    Theft:    Moore Hall/5810 Hillcrest.     A student reported theft of his bicycle.    Open. 

100575    3:18 PM.    Fire:    Fondren Science Building/3215 Daniel Avenue.    SMU PD, University Park Fire Department, University Police Department, Dallas Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response personnel responded to a chemical explosion fire.  The building was evacuated.  Fire personnel evaluated laboratory and complete structure with no further incident.   UPFD reset the fire panel and cleared with no further incident.     Closed.


MAY 12

100576    3:49 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Cockrell Hall/5905 Ownby Drive.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm.  SMU Police observed active horns, strobes and smoke.  UPFD determined a container of food had been burned in the microwave, causing the room to be full of smoke.  UPFD opened the windows to clear the smoke.  The fire panel was reset and UPFD cleared with no further incident.  Closed.

100577    9:32 AM.    Theft:    Dedman Sports Center/5900 Airline Rd.    A faculty member reported theft an I Phone.    Open.

100583    4:34 PM.    Theft:    Dyer Court Lot.    A student reported theft of his refrigerator and a bag of toiletries containing prescribe medication.    Open.

100584    4:42 PM.    Theft:    Dyer Court Lot.    A student reported theft of his bicycle.    Open. 


MAY 17

100585    8:57 AM.    Fire:    3022 Potomac Avenue.    University Park Fire Department responded to investigate smoke in the apartment.  UPFD determined the smoke was caused by a plastic cup lid that had fallen on the heating element of a dishwasher.  The apartment sustained no fire or smoke damage.  UPFD cleared the scene with no further incident.    Closed. 


MAY 18

100588    9:30 AM.    Theft:    6300 Hillcrest/Umphrey Lee Parking Lot.    A  contracted employee removed a immobilization boot from his vehicle.    Open.


MAY 19

100591    11:59 AM.    Failure to Leave Identification:    South Quad Lot/6000 Ownby Drive.    A non affiliated person reported damage to his vehicle while parked.    Open.


MAY 20

100594    9:58 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Owens Arts Center/6101 Bishop Blvd.    A staff member reported an unknown person damaged a lock to a door.    Open.


MAY 21

100596    10:44 AM.    Criminal Attempt:    5538 Dyer Street.    A faculty member reported some unknown person attempted to get into the building.  A broken off key was found in the lock mechanism.  Open.

100600    7:55 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Owens Arts Center/6101 Bishop Blvd.     A police officer reported a broken gate arm.    Open.


May 24

100604    7:52 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Binkley Parking Garage.        A police officer reported a broken concrete trash container.    Open.

100609    5:42 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Pi Kappa Alpha House.    Two police officers responded to a fire alarm that was caused by a large cloud of dust. The panel was reset and the area was cleared.    Closed.


May 25

100613    3:15 PM.    Criminal Mischief:    Fincher Building/6212 Bishop Blvd.    A staff member reported pry marks that damaged a security device.  Open. 

100614    5:20 PM.    Theft:    Hughes Trigg Student Center/3140 Dyer Street.    A student reported theft of his textbooks and study guides.    Open.

May 27

100616    10:53 AM.    Burglary of Building:    Owens Arts Center/6101 Bishop Blvd.    A faculty member reported theft of several musical instruments.    Open.


May 28

100619    8:45 AM.    Fire Alarm:    Moore Hall/5810 Hillcrest Avenue.    The cleaning personnel stirred up dust causing the smoke detector to activate.  The area was ventilated and the alarm was reset.    Closed.

100621    10:32 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Collins Executive Education Center/3150 Binkley Avenue.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm.  It was determined balloons crossed the beam detector and set off the alarm.  UPFD reset the fire panel and cleared with no further incident.    Closed.

100622    2:50 PM.    Driving While License Suspended:   6000 Bishop Blvd.     A non affiliated person was arrested and booked into University Park jail for driving while license suspended.    Closed.
