Crime log case numbers do not run sequentially.  The SMU Police Department assigns a case number for all reportable activities, both criminal and non-criminal.  Only case numbers generated for criminal activity are listed in the crime log.

January 1

100001    2:01 PM.    Indecent Exposure:    Maguire Bldg./6214 Bishop/3rd Floor.    A non affiliated person reported a white male knocking on the window and exposing himself.    Open.


January 2

100002    9:53 AM.    Reckless Damage or Destruction:    3022 SMU Blvd./Alley.    University Park Sanitation Department Driver hit a phone cable as he emptied a dumpster and damaged the phone line.    Closed.

100004  12:22 AM.      Driving While Intoxicated:    3000 Mockingbird.    A non affiliated person was arrested and booked into University Park jail for driving under the influence of alcohol.    Closed.

10009    4:21 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Main Quad/Fountain.    A police officer reported soap suds in the main fountain.    Open.


January 8

100010    1:59 PM.    Criminal Trespass Warning:    Fondren Library/6414 Hilltop.  A non affiliated person was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning.    Closed


January 9

100012    3:45 PM.    Fire Alarm:    SMU Service House/3041 Dyer Street.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm due to a water flow sensor.  UPFD arrived on scene and shut off all water to the building ceasing the water flow.  SMU maintenance was notified for repairs.    Closed.


January 10

100013    8:40 AM.    Graffiti:    East Campus/6200/6210 Central Expressway.    A police officer reported graffiti by the garage entrance and also on the side facing N. Central Expressway.  There was also graffiti on an SMU sign and a large concrete SMU trash can.    Open.

100014    5:23 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Beta Theta Pi House/3058 SMU Blvd.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm due to a water overflow.  UPFD shut off the electrical breakers, water supply and the sprinkler system.    UPFD advised no one is allowed to reside in the house until the sprinkler system and fire alarm were fully functional.       Closed.

100015    10:30 PM.    Public Intoxication:    Kappa Alpha Theta/3108 University Blvd.  A student was referred to the Student Conduct office for being intoxicated in a public place.    Closed.


  January 11

100017    12:45 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Moody Parking Garage/3063 SMU Blvd.    A police officer and fire safety officer responded to an activated fire alarm.  It was determined it was caused by a sprinkler head on the fire suppression system on the 3rd floor was busted and gushing water.  Fire Safety officer turned off the water to the system and requested a technician to come out to repair the system.    Closed.

100018    4:46 PM.    Fire Alarm:    McElvaney Hall/Mac's Place Kitchen/6000 Bishop Blvd.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm due to a gas leak.   SMU maintenance identified the source of the leak being three pilot light's out.  He relit the pilot lights and checked for any leaks.  The cleaning crew was just cleaning in the area and they may have extinguished them without knowing.  The fire alarm was reset and UPFD cleared with no further incident.    Closed.

100019    8:52 PM.    Fire Alarm:    McElvaney Hall/6000 Bishop Blvd.    A police officer responded to a fire alarm.  Upon arrival to the location, no horns or strobes were activated.  The fire panel showed no alarms in the building and there were no signs of smoke or fire.  Fire Safety Officer was contacted with no further incident.   Closed.

100020    10:22 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Dallas Hall/3225 University.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm.  Upon arrival horns and strobes were active in the building.  UPFD determined a problem with the fire sprinkler system caused the alarm to activate.  The fire alarm could not be deactivated until the sprinkler system was repaired.  The incident commander for UPFD said the building must be put on fire watch until the alarm panel could be reset.    Closed.


January 12

100022    10:05 AM.   Burglary of a Building:    Prothro Hall/5901 Bishop Blvd.     A faculty member reported theft of a digital video camera his department used for teaching.    Open. 

100023    6:22 PM.    Possession of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession /Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia/Possession of Marijuana/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:    McElvaney Hall/6000 Bishop Blvd.    A student was issued a University Park citation for drug paraphernalia, arrested and booked into University Park jail for possession of marijuana and the drug paraphernalia.  She will also be referred to the Student Conduct Office for possession of alcohol by a minor.  Another student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for possessing a fake ID.    Closed.

 100027    2:07 AM.    Public Intoxication/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:    3200 Binkley Avenue.    A student was issued a University Park citation, arrested and booked into University Park jail for public intoxication.  The student will also be referred for possessing a fake ID.    Closed.

100028    8:58 AM.    Failure To Leave Identification:    Meadows Parking Garage/5900 Bishop Blvd.    A staff member reported damage to his vehicle while parked at this location.  No contact information was left at the scene.    Open.

100029    6:46 PM.    Criminal Mischief:    McElvaney Hall/6000 Bishop Blvd.    A police officer reported he observed damages to a ceiling tile on the second floor.    Open.


January 15

100030    12:43 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Phi Gamma Delta/3064 SMU Blvd.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.         Closed

100035    10:29 AM.    Fire Alarm:    Perkins Hall.    Officers responded to a fire alarm at this location.  Horns and strobes were activated and the building was evacuated.  UPFD could not determine the cause for the alarm.  The Fire Safety Officer was notified.    Closed.


January 16

100036    2:14 AM.    Public Intoxication:    6000 Block Bishop Blvd.    Officers responded to a possible intoxicated person.  A student will be referred to the Student Conduct Officer for being publicly intoxicated.    Closed.

100038    3:43 PM.    Possession of Fictitious License or ID:    SMU Blvd. and Airline St.    A student was cited and referred for possessing two fake ID's.  Closed.


January 17

100041    12:20 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor.    Phi Gamma Delta House/3064 SMU Blvd.    A student will be referred to the Student Conduct Officer for underage drinking.    Closed.

100042    1:40 AM.     Public Intoxication:    3100 Binkley Ave.    A student was cited, arrested and referred for being intoxicated in public.  He was booked into the University Park Jail.    Closed.

100044    3:49 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Morrison Hall.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Officer for underage drinking.    Closed.

100045    5:02 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession of Alcohol by a Minor:    Phi Gamma Delta House.    Three students were referred to the Student Conduct Officer for underage drinking.  Another student was referred for underage possession of alcohol.    Closed.

100046    1:27 PM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession of Fictitious License or ID/Evading Arrest or Detention:    Phi Gamma Delta House.    A student was cited for underage drinking and having a fake ID.  He will also be referred for those two offenses and evading arrest.    Closed.

100047    4:46 PM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    2800 SMU Blvd.    An officer made contact with a student on the east campus and cited and referred her to the Student Conduct Officer.    Closed.

100048    7:43 PM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:    Sigma Alpha Epsilon House.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Officer for underage drinking and having a fake ID.    Closed.


January 18

100053    10:13 PM.    Possession/Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia/Possession of Marijuana:    Perkins Hall/6004 Hillcrest.  Two students were referred to the Student Conduct Office for possession of marijuana and for possessing paraphernalia.  Five students are being referred for being passive participants in the incident.      Closed. 


January 19

100054    1:22 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Boaz Hall/3200 Binkley Avenue.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.    Closed.

100055    10:24 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Phi Gamma Delta/3064 SMU Blvd.    A staff member reported broken windows caused by plastic pellets from a sling shot.    Open.

100056    11:00 AM.    Possession/Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia/Possession of Marijuana/Possession of Alcohol by a Minor:    Phi Delta Theta House/3072 SMU Blvd. A student was issued a University Park citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor.    Another student was issued a University Park citation for drug paraphernalia and will also be referred to the Student Conduct Office for possession of Marijuana.     Closed.


January 20

100059    4:50 AM.    Assault/Criminal Trespass Warning:    McElvaney Hall/6000 Bishop Blvd.    A non affiliated person is being charged with family violence assault. He was issued a criminal trespass warning and escorted off campus.     Closed.

100060    11:42 PM.    Theft:    Morrison Hall/6004 Bishop Blvd./Bike Rack.    A student reported theft of his bicycle.    Open.


January 21

100062   3:35 PM.     Burglary of a Building:    Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports/6000 Airline Rd.    A staff member reported theft of a pressure washer from a secured garage.    Open.


January 22

100065    10:12 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Sigma Alpha Epsilon/3005 Dyer Court.    A police officer reported the lions in front of the SAE house were vandalized with blue paint.    Open.

100066    12:36 PM.    Unexplained Death:    SMU House/3004 Blvd.    A student was found deceased in his room.   This incident occurred on 01/22/2012  between 2:30 am and 12:36 PM.     Open.

100067   2:45 PM.     Theft:    Moody Coliseum/6024 Airline Rd.    A staff member reported theft of his laptop computer and power cord.    Open.

100068    3:40 PM.    Criminal Attempt:    Embrey Engineering Bldg./3101 Dyer St.    A student reported she saw an unknown male going through her purse as she walked back into a lab.      Closed.

100069    4:17 PM.    Theft/Criminal Trespass Warning:    Collins Executive Bldg./3150 Binkley Avenue.    A non affiliated man was arrested for theft and booked into University Park jail and later transported to Dallas County jail.  He was also issued a criminal trespass warning.      Closed.


January 23   

100072    10:54 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Mary Hay Hall/3323 Peyton Parkway.    University Park Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm.  The fire panel indicated activation from the fourth floor lounge.  It was determined the fire alarm was caused by overcooked popcorn in the microwave.  The smoke was ventilated and the fire department reset the fire panel and cleared with no further incident.    Closed.


January 24

100073    1:17 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Pi Kappa Alpha House/3035 Dyer St.     A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.  Closed.


January 25

100076    8:58 AM.    Theft:    Hughes Trigg Student Center/3140 Dyer St.    A staff member reported theft of a rug with SMU logo on it.    Open.

100077    9:31 AM.    Criminal Mischief:    Commuter Lot/3000 University Blvd.    A staff member reported the Daily Campus newspaper box had been knocked over and damaged.    Open.

100078    9:39 AM.    Arrested on Warrant/Aggravated Sexual Assault/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:    Off Campus/Huntsville Texas.    A student was arrested on an active warrant from Walker County Sheriffs Department for aggravated sexual assault.  The student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for possessing a fake ID.  Student's charges pled down to two misdemeanors and he was placed on probation.    Closed.


January 26

100084    7:36 AM.    Burglary:    Dawson Service Center/3050 Dyer Street.    A staff member reported some unknown person broke into the hazardous waste building leaving the doors propped open with some pry bar damage.  No missing property reported.    Open.


January 27

100087    10:23 AM.    Theft:    SMU Bookstore/Barnes & Noble/3060 Mockingbird Lane.    A customer reported theft of a textbook.    Open. 

100089    11:25 PM.    Fire Alarm:    Expressway Tower/6200/6116 Central Expressway.    A police officer responded to a trouble fire alarm.  It was determined the fire panel was malfunctioning.  The fire panel was silenced and Fire Safety Officer was notified.      Closed.


January 28

100093    1:09 PM.    Possession of Fictitious License or ID:    Boaz Hall/3200 Binkley Avenue.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for possessing a fake ID.    Closed.

100094    3:00 PM.    Theft:    Maguire Bldg./6214 Bishop Blvd/Bike Rack.    A student reported theft of her bicycle.    Open.

100095    6:50 PM.    Criminal Mischief:    Binkley Parking Garage/3101 Binkley Ave.    A police officer reported a damaged gate arm.    Open.

100096    1:37 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession of Fictitious:    3100 University/Airline Rd.    A student was issued a University Park citation for possessing a fictitious ID.  The student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking and for possessing the fake ID.  Closed.

100097    2:16 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Smith Hall/6020 Hillcrest Avenue.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.     Closed.    

100100     12:51 PM.    Criminal Trespass Warning:    Sigma Phi Epsilon/3050 SMU Blvd.      A criminal trespass warning was issued to a staff member.    Closed.

100104     11:57 PM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    McElvaney Hall/6000 Bishop.      A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.    Closed.

100107    4:18 PM.    Failure To Leave Identification:    Moody Parking Garage/2nd Level/3063 SMU Blvd.    A former student reported his vehicle was struck while parked by an unknown person and no contact information was left at the scene.    Open.

100111    12:26 AM.    Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:    Dyer Court Lot.    A student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.    Closed.

100112    1:07 AM.    Possession of Alcohol by a Minor/Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Failure to Obey a University Police Officer:    Kappa Sigma House/3022 SMU Blvd.    One student was referred to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking and for possession of alcohol.  Four students were referred to the Student to the Student Conduct Office for underage drinking.    Closed.
