050355  1:40 AM:  Assist Other Agency:  An officer provided assistance to Highland Park Police on a alarm call.  Closed.

050356  12:03 PM:  Theft - Class B ($50-499):  A student reported that someone stole her wallet and contents.  The student was in several different locations on campus (OAC, Blanton Building, CMIT lab) before she realized her wallet had been stolen.  The wallet was later recovered near the 7-11 on Hillcrest; however, the cash the student had in the wallet was missing.  Open.  

050357  11:15 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to a noise complaint in the University Gardens Apartments.  The resident was contacted and told to turn down the volume on his television.  Closed.

050358  11:57 AM:  Sick or Injured:  Officers and UPEMS responded to a medical call in the Meadows Museum Parking Garage involving a non-affiliated man.  Closed.

050359  1:40 AM:  Theft - Class C (Less than $50):  A student reported that someone stole his leather key holder, which contained his SMU ID card, from the basement in McGinnis Hall.  No unauthorized charges were made to the card.  No suspects at this time.  Closed.


March 2

050360  2:01 AM:  Driving Under the Influence by a Minor/Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  A student was stopped for a traffic violation in the 3000 block of SMU Boulevard. Investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages and is underage.   The student was issued a court citation for the violation.  Four student passengers in the car had the odor of alcoholic beverages on their breath and are underage.   All five students will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050361  3:22 AM:  Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle/Evading Arrest or Detention:  Officers observed a man driving a Vespa Scooter at a high rate of speed on the sidewalk in the 6200 block of Bishop Boulevard.  Officers attempted to stop the driver of the scooter, but the driver evaded police and committed several other traffic violations.  The driver was finally stopped in the South Quad Lot.  The driver was identified as a student.  Investigation revealed the student was driving the scooter without the authorization of the owner.  The owner of the scooter was contacted and told officers she did not wish to file criminal charges.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050362  6:27 AM:  Credit Card or Debit Card Abuse:  A faculty member reported that someone used her debit card to make unauthorized purchases in the amount of $955.31.  The last time the faculty member used her debit card was in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center.  Open.

050363  5:15 PM:  Crime Prevention Presentation Lt. Jemmott conducted a self-defense class at the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports for members of the SMU Community.  Closed.


March 3

050364  1:58 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:  Officers made contact with a two students on Bishop Boulevard.  The two students had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their breath and are underage.  The students will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050365  1:32 PM:  Harassment:  A student reported that she received 46 harassing telephone calls from a known person.  The caller also made inappropriate sexual remarks during the calls.  Investigation is on-going.  Open. 

050366  5:42 PM:  Burglary of Vehicle:  A stereo was stolen from a student's vehicle parked in the Patterson Lot.  The driver's side window was broken to gain entry.  The stereo is valued at $200.  Closed.

050367  5:43 PM:  Burglary of Vehicle:  A MP3 Player was stolen from a staff's vehicle parked in the Patterson Lot.  The driver's side window was broken to gain entry.  The MP3 Player is valued at $300.  Closed.

050368  7:36 PM:  Crime Prevention Presentation:  Major Shafer conducted a police department procedures briefing in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center for members of IFC's Risk Management team.  Closed

050369  7:38 PM:  Failure to Leave ID (at Accident Scene):  Officers responded to a vehicle accident in the 6300 block of Ownby Street.  The driver of the striking vehicle left the area prior to police arrival.  The suspect vehicle was located in the West Quad Lot.  Officers made contact with the suspect, who is a student.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.


March 4

050370  12:57 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to a loud noise complaint at a residence in the Binkley Avenue Apartments.  The resident was contacted and told to keep the noise down.  Closed.

050371  2:05 AM:  Assist Other Agency:  Officers assisted Highland Park Police and University Park Police with a traffic accident at the intersection of Hillcrest and Mockingbird Lane.  Three SMU students were involved in the accident. One of the students was arrested for DWI.  Another student was issued a court citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. The two students will be referred to the Judicial Officer. Closed. 

050372  4:19 AM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and UPFD responded to a fire alarm at the Phi Delta Theta House.  No cause for the alarm could be determined.  Closed.

050373   7:05 AM:   Disorderly Conduct:  Officers responded to assist UPPD after two students living on Rosedale St reported seeing a man peering through her apartment window.  A description of the man was broadcast.  The suspect was stopped by University Park and later positively identified by the complainants.  The man was arrested and booked into the UP Jail.  Closed.

050374  9:24 AM:  Fire System Trouble Alarm:  Officers responded to a trouble with system alarm at the Owens Arts Center.  Cause was attributed to maintenance crews who cut through a group of wires tied into the alarm system.  Closed.

050375  11:01 AM:  Theft Class C - Less than $50.00:  A student reported the theft of clothing items from the laundry room near 2908 Binkley Ave.  Open.

050376   1:29 PM:  Theft Class B - $50 - $499.00:  A staff member reported the Happy Wok delivery man stole $200 cash from her after she accidentally gave him the cash to pay for an order. She said she attempted to stop the man; but he ignored her as he left with the money.  Investigation is pending.  Open

050377  2:21 PM:  Vehicle Accident - Minor:  Officers investigated a minor collision in the Meadows Parking Garage.  No injuries were reported.  closed.


March 5

050378  1:28 AM:  Sick or Injured Person:  A student requested an ambulance respond to McGinnis Hall after he became ill.  Closed

050379  1:58 AM:  Disorderly Conduct/Evading Arrest/Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/ Possession of a Counterfeit ID:  Two students were observed fighting in public in the OFAC Parking Lot. One of the men fled on foot when police arrived; but was captured after a short chase.  He had been drinking and was in Possession of a Counterfeit Driver's License.  The other student was cited for Public Intoxication and Possession of a Counterfeit Driver's License.  Closed

050380  4:30 AM:  Off Campus Assault:  Two students were reported to have been physically assaulted during a fight at the Margarita Ranch.  One student was transported to the hospital.  Closed

050381  5:37 AM:  Criminal Mischief/Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession of a Counterfeit Driver's License:  Officers were called to the Lambda Chi House on a possible burglary in progress call.  Officers found that seven students were involved.  Someone discharged a fire extinguisher inside the house.  Three were issued citations for MIC and Possession of Counterfeit Driver's Licenses.  Referred to the Judicial Officer.

050385  11:23 PM:  Loud Noise Complaint/Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers responded to 2812 Binkley Ave and found a party in progress. Contact was made with the tenant who agreed to turn down the volume and break up the party.  One underage student was identified and issued a citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor.  Closed

050386  11:31 PM:  Medical Call:  EMS responded to Moore Hall after a student reported she was ill.  She did not require medical transport.  closed.


March 6

050387  3:12 AM:  Disorderly Conduct/Alcohol Offenses/ Fire Safety Violation:  Officers responded to the Phi Gamma Delta House.  Nine students were identified inside the house.  All were cited for alcohol related offenses and the fraternity was written up for an alcohol policy violation.  Evidence that people were smoking inside the house was noted.  Referred to the Judicial Officer.

050388  3:36 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by Minor:  Officers responded to the Pi Kappa Alpha House and found two underage students who had been drinking.  Both will be referred to the Judicial Officer.

050389  3:40 AM:  DUI Minor/Consumption of Alcohol by Minor:  A student was identified during a traffic stop on SMU Blvd.  He had been drinking and is under 21 YOA. He was cited for DUI - Minor. His passenger also had been drinking and was cited for MIC.  Closed.

050390  6:56 AM:  Fire Alarm:  UPFD responded to McFarlin Auditorium on a fire alarm.  No cause was determined.  Fire Safety was notified.  Closed

050391  2:42 AM (delayed entry):  Suspicious Activity: Officers observed two men walk out the back door of the Phi Delta Theta House, spot the police car, and run back inside.  The officers found a room where a stack of painted bricks had been stacked.  Open.

050392  3:20 PM:  Assault with Family Violence:  Officers responded to 2704 College Plaza on a transfer 911 call from Dallas PD.  The initial report was of a fight inside one of the apartments.  Officers arrived and found no evidence of a fight.  Closed.

050393  11:00 PM:  OFF CAMPUS - Burglary of a Habitation:  UPPD responded to 3201 Rosedale after a resident in the apartment reported waking up to find a man standing in her bedroom.  The man fled before police arrived.  Police surmised entry was gained through an unlocked back door. Cash was reported to have been taken from the woman's purse.  (NOTE:  SMU Police remind all residents to lock all doors and windows at all times to prevent similar crimes.)  See the Campus Alert dated 03/07/05 located at www.smu.edu/pd..  Open.

050394  12:44 AM:  Criminal Mischief:  Officers responded to the West Quad Lot on a report of a man striking a handicap parking sign with a golf club.  Officers were unable to located the suspect.  Closed.

050395  2:10 AM:  DUI Minor/Consumption of Alcohol by Minor:  A non-affiliated man was identified during a traffic stop on Bishop Blvd.  He had been drinking and was cited for DUI - Minor.  Closed

050396  12:26 PM:  Theft-Class B $50.00 - $499.00:  A student reported the theft of her purse from the Fondren Science Building.  The purse was left unsecured in at least two different locations.  Open.

050397  7:08 PM:   Traffic Stop/Noise Complaint:  An officer conducted a traffic stop on a gold Ford truck owned and driven by a student after a complainant reported he was riding around campus using a vehicle loud speaker.  The student admitted he had a loud speaker installed on his truck, but had not been using it.  Closed.

050398  12:50 AM:  Trashcan Fire:   UPFD responded to a trashcan fire in front of Cockrell Hall.  An R/A put out the fire before fire fighters arrived.  Closed.

050399   1:30 AM:  DUI Minor/Possession of a Counterfeit Driver's License:  A student was identified during a traffic stop on Bishop Blvd after an officer observed him driving at an excessive speed.  The driver had been drinking and was cited for DUI Minor.  He was also in possession of a counterfeit Texas driver's license.  Closed.

050401  1:43 AM:  Fire Alarm:  UPFD responded to the Kappa Sigma House after the fire alarm activated.  No cause for the alarm was determined.  Fire Safety will be notified.  Closed

050402  8:51 AM:  Theft - Class B ($50-499):  A staff member reported that someone stole a parking meter from the 6400 block of Ownby Street.  Open.

050403  2:46 PM:  Fire:  A non-affiliated person's vehicle caught on fire while parked at his residence in the 2800 block of SMU Boulevard.  UPFD responded and extinguished the fire.  The house sustained minor smoke damage.  No one was inside the vehicle when the fire started.  Closed.

050404  3:40 PM:  Medical Call:  Officers and UP EMS responded to a medical call at the Memorial Health Center involving a student. Closed.

050405  5:43 PM:  Assault:  Officers responded to a fight involving several juveniles in the 6100 block of Airline Road.  Investigation revealed that two male juveniles assaulted another male juvenile.  The juveniles were released to their parents.  Closed.

050406  8:11 PM:  Possession of Fictitious License or ID:  A wallet turned in to the SMU PD lost and found contained a counterfeit ID.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050407  10:26 PM:  Criminal Mischief:  A student reported that her vehicle was damaged while parked in the Blanton Building Parking Lot.  Someone scratched the vehicle with an unknown object causing approximately $2000 in damage.  Open.

050409  9:07 AM:  Credit Card or Debit Card Abuse:  A student reported that someone used his Pony Card to make unauthorized purchases at an off campus restaurant.  Suspects have been identified.  Investigation is on-going.  Open.

050410  10:24 AM:  Theft - Class A ($500-1499):  A student reported that her purse was stolen from a room in the Lambda Chi House.  Open.

050411  3:44 PM:  Violation of University Policy/Code of Conduct:  A student, who had an immobilization device placed on her vehicle for outstanding parking tickets, became irate with an officer.  The student threatened to remove the tire and boot from her vehicle and take it with her.  The student was disrespectful and inappropriate in her contact with the officer and will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050413  2:53 PM:  Major Utility Failure:  Officers and UPFD responded to a power outage at the Delta Gamma House.  A transformer malfunctioned causing the outage.  Closed.

050415  3:22 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Disorderly Conduct:  Officers responded to a fight in progress call at McElevaney Hall.  Officers identified nine (9) students who were involved in the altercation.  Seven (7) of the students had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their breath and are underage.  Several other students witnessed the fight. Nine (9) students will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050416  10:55 AM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:  An officer assisted a member of Fire Safety conduct an emergency evacuation exercise at Ford Stadium.  Closed.

050418  2:16 PM:  Violation of University Policy/Code of Conduct:  A student was towed from a 24 hour Faculty/Staff Only space near the Memorial Health Center.  The student contacted the police department and became irate with police department personnel regarding his towed vehicle. The student made inappropriate comments and was disrespectful and in his contact with department staff.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050419  2:46 PM:  Theft - Class A ($500-1499):  A student reported that someone stole his clothing from a dryer in the basement of Virginia Hall.  A suspect has been identified.  Investigation is on-going.  Open.

050420  10:55 AM:  Shelter In Place Exercise:  An officer assisted a member of Fire Safety conduct a shelter in place drill in the Junkins Engineering Building.  Closed.

050421  11:46 PM:  Assault:  Two male students reported they were assaulted by three known men in the Fondren Parking Lot.  The three men are non-affiliated and fled the area prior to the students reporting the assault to police. This case is under investigation.  Open.


March 12

050422  2:52 AM:  Driving Under the Influence by a Minor:  A student was found asleep in the driver's seat of her vehicle in the middle of the street in the 3300 block of Peyton Parkway.  The vehicle was running and the gear shift was in the drive position.  Officers were able to wake the student.  The student had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and is underage.  The student was issued a court citation and will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050423  2:56 AM:  Tampering with Fire Protection System:  Officers responded to a fire door alarm at McElvaney Hall.  The fire door was found closed, but the local door alarm was audible.  Officers conducted a check of the roof and found a non-affiliated man.  The officers identified the man who said he was visiting a resident in the hall; however, when the alarm sounded, the resident let the door close and left the non-affiliated man on the roof.  The resident will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050424  10:22 AM:  Welfare Check on Person:  A father of a student was unable to make contact with his son at Snider Hall.  The father became concerned and police were contacted.  The student was later located.  Closed.

050425  4:23 PM:  Burglary of Habitation/Criminal Mischief/Fire Safety Violation:  A student reported that someone broke into the Lambda Chi Alpha house and stole two plaques, as well as a painting.  A fire extinguisher was also discharged throughout the first floor of the house.  Open.

050426  10:27 PM:  Possession of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers contacted a student in Morrision Hall who was having a small party.  The resident had alcoholic beverages in his room and is underage.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050427  12:36 AM:  Intrusion Alarm:  Officers responded to an Intrusion Alarm at the Bridwell Library.  The west door was found ajar.  The area was secured.  Closed.

050428  12:57 AM:  Criminal Trespass:  Officers responded to a call regarding several people swimming in the Barr Pool.  Officers made contact and identified six non-affiliated men.  Open.

050429  10:22 AM:  Criminal Mischief:  A staff member reported that someone wrote on the exterior wall on the north side of the Meadows Museum.  Open.


March 14

050430  7:33 AM:  Burglary of a Building:  A contractor reported that someone forcibly entered a locked storage trailer in the construction site on Dyer Street east of the Dawson Service Center and stole a generator and other power equipment.  Open.


March 15

050431  1:47 AM:  Assist Other Agency-Off Campus Shooting:  Officers responded to assist a Dallas PD officer with a shots fired call at Mockingbird Lane and southbound Central Expressway service road.  Two armed suspects in a white Jaguar shot at the victim's car numerous times.  Three persons were killed and a fourth wounded in the shooting.  None of the victims are affiliated with SMU. Dallas Police and University Park Police are investigating the incident.   See the Campus Alert dated 03/15/05 located at www.smu.edu/pd.  Update:   One suspect has been arrested and taken into custody.  The other suspect still remains at large.

050432  9:15 AM:  Failure to Leave Identification (Accident Scene): A witness observed a vehicle accident in the Boaz Lot.  The striking vehicle left the scene.  Officers later located the driver and identified her as a faculty member.  The faculty member admitted to hitting another vehicle and provided insurance information to officers.  Closed.

050433  2:25 PM:  Graffiti (Class B):  A staff member reported that someone used a pink marker to write on a sculpture at the Meadows Museum.  Open.

050434  5:29 PM:  Intrusion Alarm:  Officers responded to an Intrusion Alarm at the Bridwell Library.  The basement door was found open.  The area was secured.  Closed.

050435  9:43 PM:  Motor Vehicle Accident:  Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident in the South Quad Lot involving two student vehicles.  Closed.

050436  3:40 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Public Intoxication/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:  Two students were contacted in the 3000 block of SMU Boulevard.  One student was arrested for Public Intoxication.  The other student was arrested for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and Possession of a Fictitious License or ID.  Both students were booked into UP Jail and will also be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050437  3:22 PM:  Vehicle Accident:  A staff member damaged a student's car in the Law Parking Garage.  They exchanged information.  Closed.

050438  5:01 PM:  Crime Prevention Talk/Class:  Lt. Jemmott conducted a self-defense class at the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.  Closed.

050439  5:34 PM:  Intrusion Alarm:  Officers responded to investigate an alarm at the Bridwell Library.  Cause of the alarm was not determined.  Closed.

050440  2:16 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to investigate a noise complaint in the Binkley Apartments.  They found that a student had left his TV on but was not at home.  Officers contacted his parents who responded and turned off the TV.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050441  11:00 PM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and UP Fire Department responded to investigate a fire alarm at the Crow Building.  The cause of the alarm was not determined.  Fire Safety staff were notified to check the system.  Closed.

050442  10:17AM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and Risk Management Staff responded to a fire alarm at the Fondren Library.  Construction workers in the attic had accidentally set off the alarms.  Closed.

050443  2:03 PM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:  An evacuation exercise was conducted at Caruth Hall.  Closed

050444  8:03 PM:  Sick or Injured Person:  Officers responded to a medical call at McFarlin Auditorium involving a non-affiliated person.  Closed.

050445  8:23 AM:  Burglary of Habitation:  A student reported that his portable computer and a Visa card had been stolen from his locked room in the Pike House on February 15, 2005 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.  Open.

050446  12:00 AM:  Possession of Alcohol by Minor:  An underage student in McGinnis Hall was found in possession of 55 unopened containers of beer.  The beer was disposed of and the student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050447  2:30 AM:  Burglary of Vehicle:  A non-affiliated person reported her unsecured vehicle was burglarized while parked in the Theology Lot.  Her purse, that was left in plain view, was stolen.  Open.

050448  2:46 AM:  Duty Upon Striking Fixture:  Someone hit the gate that leads to the construction site on Dublin Street and the SMU Alley causing extensive damage to the gate.  The unknown driver fled the scene. Open.

050449  3:18 AM:  Assist Other Agency:  Officers assisted UPPD and Dallas Sheriff's Office with an accident scene at Potomac Ave the and Central Expressway Service Road.  Closed.

March 21

050451  11:19 AM:  Criminal Mischief:  A staff member reported someone used some type of small explosive device to cause damage to a toilet in a restroom in Boaz Hall.  This case is under investigation.  Open.

050452  3:25 PM:  Possession of Marijuana/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia:  Officers responded to Morrison Hall regarding the odor of burning marijuana coming from a room on the third floor.  Officers made contact with the resident of the room and a non-affiliated guest.  The non-affiliated man admitted to having smoked marijuana in the room.  He produced a small amount of marijuana and a pipe. The resident admitted she knew the marijuana and pipe were in the room.  Both were issued court citations for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The resident will be referred to the Judicial Officer for Possession of Marijuana.  The non-affiliated man was issued a criminal trespass warning and instructed to leave the campus.  Court and Judicial Referral.


March 22

050453  2:48 AM:  Driving While Intoxicated:  A non-affiliated woman was identified during a traffic stop in the 3000 block of McFarlin Boulevard.  She was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for DWI.  The woman was transported to UP Jail.  Closed.

050454  12:29 PM:  Criminal Trespass Warning:  A staff member reported a suspicious person in the 6200 block of Bishop Boulevard.  Officers made contact with a non-affiliated man and determined he had no official business or reason to be on the campus. He was issued a criminal trespass warning and instructed to leave the campus.  Closed.

050455  4:50 PM:  Vehicle Accident:  A staff member reported a vehicle accident in the Moody Parking Garage.  Closed.

050456  8:12 PM:  Disorderly Conduct:  Two female students reported several male students accosted them inside the Umphrey Lee Cafeteria, used obscene language, and temporarily prevented them from leaving.  The suspects have all been identified.  Judicial Referral. 


March 23

050457  12:11 AM:  Assault (Family Violence):  Two roommates in Moore Hall became involved in a verbal argument that resulted in a physical assault.  Open.

050458  2:45 AM:  Arrest for Warrants:  A student reported an unknown man was asking female residents of McElvaney Hall if he could stay in their room for the night.  The complainant said she refused to allow the man access to the rest of McElvaney Hall and called the police.  Officers found the non-affiliated man and determined he had outstanding warrants for his arrest.  The man was transported to the Dallas County Jail.  He was also issued a criminal trespass warning.  Closed.

050459  10:56 AM:  Seizure and Revocation of Placard:  A student was caught illegally using a state disabled  parking placard issued to another person in order to illegally park in disabled spaces.  The placard was confiscated and the student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050460  1:55 PM:  Assist Other Agency:  Officers assisted University Park Police with a vehicle accident that occurred at SMU Blvd. and 75 Central access road.  Two SMU students were involved in the accident.  Closed.

050462  2:01 PM:  Burglary of a Vehicle:  A student reported someone burglarized her vehicle while parked in the alley at 3100 Fondren Drive.  The unknown suspect attempted to steal a stereo.  However, the installed anti-theft device prevented the theft.  Open.

050463  11:01 PM:  Consumption of Alcohol by Minor/Disorderly Conduct/Purchase/Furnish Alcohol to Minors:  Officers responded to the Binkley Apartments to investigate a loud noise complaint.  Seven students were having a party causing the disturbance.  Five of the students are underage and were consuming alcoholic beverages. Two students, both 21 YOA, admitted to supplying the others with beer.  Judicial Referral.

050464  4:00 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by Minor:  An underage student was observed tampering with the front door card reader of McElvaney Hall.  Investigation revealed the underage student had been drinking alcoholic beverages.  He was issued a court citation. Court and Judicial Referral. 

050465  11:17 AM:  Theft - Class C (Less than $50.00):  A student reported the theft of prescription medication from her bag that she inadvertently left unsecured outside of the OFAC between 7:00 PM and 7:45 PM on March 23, 2005.  Open.

050466  5:06 PM:  Burglary of a Habitation (Unknown time):  A student living in the Kappa Alpha House reported someone entered his unsecured room and stole two checkbooks.  An unspecified number of checks have been forged on his account.  He related he last saw the checkbooks prior to leaving for Spring Break.  Open.

050467  6:44 PM:  Arrest for Outstanding Warrants:  Officers arrested a non-affiliated man inside the Umphrey Lee Cafeteria.  He was transported and booked into the Dallas County Jail.  Closed.


March 25

050468  1:02 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers responded to the front lobby of McElvaney Hall after receiving a report of a party in progress.  An underage student was observed by officers who determined he was intoxicated.  He was issued a court citation for the listed offense and released to a responsible person.  None of the other individuals present were drinking. Court and Judicial Referral.

050469  2:09 AM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and UPFD responded to a fire alarm at McElvaney Hall.  Investigation revealed a student, overcooked a bag of popcorn in the microwave which set off the alarm system.  Closed.

050470  2:41 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Two students were identified in the 3200 block of Binkley Ave. Both are underage and had been drinking alcoholic beverages at an off campus bar.  Judicial Referral.

050471  2:51 AM:  Assist Other Agency (Off Campus Incident):  UPPD requested assistance from SMU Police at a private  residence on Asbury Street.  Approximately 75-100 people, most believed to be SMU students, were present and alcoholic beverages were being served.  UP officers issued court citations.  The students identified by police will also be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Court and Judicial Referral. 

050472  5:48 AM:  Fire:  An officer observed a fire inside a trash receptacle located in front of Shuttles Hall.  The officer extinguished the flames with his vehicle fire extinguisher.  UPFD responded to insure the fire was completely out.  Closed.

050473  9:28 AM:  Criminal Mischief/Graffiti:  A staff member reported that someone had pushed a Coke vending machine on it's side and spray painted a symbol on the machine.  The machine was located in the 2900 block of Binkley alley.  Open.


March 26

050474  1:09 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Students in the Binkley Apartments were causing a disturbance in an apartment in the 2900 block of Binkley.  The students were told to keep the noise down and all four will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050475  12:47 AM:  Welfare Check/Theft (less than $50):  Parents of two students reported that they were concerned as they had not heard from the students for over 12 hours.  They had last heard from the two at Central Market on Greenville.  The parents located one of the students vehicle at Central Market.  A missing persons report was filled with Dallas Police Department.  Investigations revealed that the two students were in the Dallas County Jail for shoplifting.  Closed.

050476  2:30 AM:  Public Intoxication/Disorderly Conduct/Criminal Trespass Warning:  Officers observed an un-affiliated man urinating in front of the KA House.  The man was arrested and booked into the UP Jail.  Closed.

050477  3:51 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/University Policy Violation:  Officers located two female high school students in Boaz Hall unescorted.  Investigations revealed that the two girls were visiting an SMU student in Boaz Hall.  The SMU student was contacted and it was determined that he was under 21 YOA and had been consuming alcohol.  Parents of the two high school students were contacted and picked up the two girls.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050478  4:20 AM:  Harassment:  A student reported that she had received a harassing phone call on her cell phone in Snider Hall.  No suspects or leads.  Open.

050479  8:07 PM:  Smell of Natural Gas:  Students reported the smell of natural gas in Boaz Hall.  Officers located a plastic bottle that contained a liquid mixture that smelled like natural gas.  The liquid was removed from the hall.  Closed. 


March 27

050480  12:08 AM:  Intrusion Alarm:   Officer's responded and investigated a perimeter door alarm at the Meadows Museum.  The facility was checked and the cause for the alarm was not determined.  Closed.

050481  3:14 AM:  Graffiti:  Officers discovered that someone had written profanities and drawings on a door in Boaz Hall.  Open.

050482  3:53 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by Minor:  An underage student was contacted by officers in the 3200 block of Binkley Ave. The student had been consuming alcoholic beverages.  Judicial Referral.

050483  5:00 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by Minor/Evading Arrest/Fire Safety Violation:  Officers heard loud music and talking coming from the rear of the Pike House.  Investigation revealed that four men were sitting on the roof of the Pike House and loud music was heard coming out of a second floor window.  The second floor hallway and east stairwell was cluttered with trash and stacked furniture.  One underage student was cited and referred to the Judicial Officer for consuming alcohol.  The fraternity was referred to the Judicial Officer for Fire Safety Violations.  Judicial Referral/Court.


March 28

050484  12:40 AM:  Criminal Trespass/Suspicious Person:  Officers responded to a report that a wanted man was on campus inside McElvaney Hall.  Officers arrested the non-affiliated man, who had been issued a criminal trespass warning, and booked him into the UP Jail.  Closed.

050485  9:38 AM:  Sick or Injured Person:  Officers responded to the Patterson Lot to investigate an injured person.  Closed.

050486  11:21 AM:  Suspected Criminal Mischief:  A student reported someone flattened a tire on her vehicle while parked in the South Quad parking lot.  Investigation revealed she had run over a nail.  Unfounded.

050487  5:28 PM:  Burglary of Vehicle:  A student reported someone burglarized his vehicle, that was parked in the Commuter Lot, and stole an I-Pod from inside his open console.  The crime occurred between 3:15 PM and 4:00 PM.  Open.

050488  6:20 PM:  Criminal Trespass Warning:  A cab driver was issued a criminal trespass warning after a student reported he telephoned her and made unwanted sexual advances.  Closed.


March 29

050489  1:20 AM:  Kidnapping:  A student reported her friend may have been the victim of a kidnapping.  The student said she received several cell phone text messages from her female friend, who is also a student, saying she had been kidnapped by a male student and was being held against her will at his off campus apartment. Officers initiated a criminal investigation. It was soon determined the "kidnapping" was a hoax.  The male and female students involved with the hoax will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Unfounded.

050490  8:51 AM:  Suspicious Person:  A staff member reported that a unknown male was in McElvaney Hall.  The man told the staff member he was homeless and that an unknown student had allowed him to sleep in their room, but became uncomfortable and asked the man to leave.  Officers conducted a search of McElvaney Hall, but were unable to locate the man.  Closed.

050493  2:35 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Possession of Fictitious License or ID:  Officers made contact with a student in the 3100 block of Binkley Avenue.  The student had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and is underage.  The student was also in possession of a counterfeit driver's license.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer for the violations.  Closed.

050496  8:00 PM:  Criminal Trespass Warning:  A non-affiliated man was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning after a staff member observed him viewing pornographic material on one of the computers in Fondren Library.  The man was escorted from the building.  Closed.

050497  9:49 PM:  Accidental Property Damage:  A student's vehicle was damaged by a softball while parked in the 3000 block of SMU Boulevard north of the Intramural Field.  A softball accidentally struck the student's vehicle during an intramural softball game.  Closed.

050498  10:31 PM:  Violation of University Policy/Code of Conduct:  Three students handing out flyers for an off campus event were identified by officers.  The students were advised of university policy and told to discontinue passing out the flyers.  Closed.


March 31

050499  12:07 AM:  Suspicious Person:  A student reported that an unknown man driving a tan, 2-door, "sport style" Acura appeared to be following her and staring at her as she walked in the 3000 block of University Boulevard.  Officers responded, but were unable to locate the vehicle.  Closed.

050500  9:42 PM:  Consumption of Alcohol by Minor/Possession of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers made contact with five students in a room at Boaz Hall.  Officers identified five students.  Three of the students had the odor of alcoholic beverages on their breath.  Alcoholic beverages were also found in the room.  All five students are underage and will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.
