February 1

050181  1:38 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Fire Safety Violation/Fire Alarm:  Officers and UPFD responded to a fire alarm at the Kappa Sigma House.  The fire panel indicated a  smoke detector in one of the rooms activated. The residents of the room were contacted.  One of the students had been smoking cigarettes in the room and caused the alarm to activate.  Both residents of the room had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their breaths and are underage.  Both residents will be referred to the Judicial Officer for the violations.  Closed.

050182  2:15 AM:  Field Interview:  Officers made contact with a man sitting in a vehicle in the West Quad Lot.  The vehicle did not have a parking sticker and appeared to be unaffiliated.  The driver of the vehicle told officers that he was waiting for his brother who was visiting his girlfriend in Mary Hay Hall.  The man and his brother left campus.  Closed.

050183  5:59 AM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:  Officers and a member of Fire Safety conducted an emergency evacuation exercise at the Panhellenic House.  Closed.

050187  4:34 PM:  Theft - Class A ($500-1499):  A student reported that someone stole his guitar from his room in Mary Hay Hall.  A non-affiliated juvenile has been identified as the suspect in the case.  The investigation is on-going.  Open.

050188  8:05 PM:  Malicious or False Fire Alarm:  Officers responded to a fire alarm in Smith Hall.  A pull station on the third floor was activated by unknown person(s).  No cause for the pull station activation could be determined.  Closed.

050189  9:05 PM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to a noise compliant from a room in Martin Hall.  The residents of the room were contacted.  Closed.

050190  12:23 AM:  Medical Call/Assist Other Agency:  Officers responded to a medical call in the 3100 block of Mockingbird Avenue involving a student.  Closed. 

050191  2:52 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers made contact with three students on the north side of Ford Stadium.  All three students had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their breaths and are underage.  All three students were issued court citations for the violation.  Closed.

050192  11:16 AM:  Sick or Injured Person:  Officers and Dallas EMS responded to a medical call at the Umphrey Lee Center involving a student.  Closed.

050193  1:16 PM:  Water Leak:  A staff member reported that a sprinkler head was accidentally broken by construction workers in Collins Hall.  Closed.

050194  5:00 PM:  Crime Prevention Program:  Lt. Jemmott conducted a self-defense class at the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.  Closed.

050195  10:29 PM:  Burglary of Vehicle:  A student reported that someone burglarized her vehicle while parked in the Airline Parking Garage and stole a case containing CDs.  Property stolen was valued at $510.  Open.

050196  11:34 PM:  Administrative Information Report:  An officer reported that a digital camera was found in one of the police vehicles.  The camera was placed in the Police Department's Lost and Found.  Closed.


February 3

050197  2:22 AM:  Violation of University Policy or Code of Conduct:  A student pledging the Kappa Sigma fraternity was found in the Kappa Sigma house during unauthorized hours.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer for the violation.  Closed.

050198  5:55 AM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:  Officers and the UP Fire Marshall conducted an emergency evacuation exercise at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house.  Closed.

050199  6:29 AM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:  Officers and the UP Fire Marshall conducted an emergency evacuation exercise at the Lambda Chi house.  Closed.

050200  4:34 AM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:  An emergency evacuation exercise scheduled for the Sigma Chi House was cancelled when the UP Fire Marshall received information that the dates and times of emergency evacuation exercises were being distributed to members of both fraternity and sorority houses.  The exercise at the Sigma Chi house will be conducted on another date.  Closed.

050201  10:10 AM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and the UP Fire Marshal responded to a fire alarm in the Kappa Sigma House.  Steam from water and chemicals used to clean the kitchen grill set off the alarm.  Closed.

050202  4:42 PM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and the UPFD responded to a fire alarm in the Alpha Chi Omega House.  Smoke from bacon frying set off the alarm.  Closed.

050203  5:36 PM:  Theft - Class B ($50-499):  A student reported that his money clip containing cash and credit cards was stolen from his room in Virginia Hall.  Open.


February 4

050204  12:37 AM:  Criminal Mischief:  The north gate arms in the Moody Parking Garage were damaged. Open.

050205  2:34 AM:  Vehicle Accident:  A staff member was involved in a vehicle accident in the 3000 block of SMU Boulevard while driving a university vehicle.  Closed.

050206  2:32 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers made contact with a student in the 3100 block of Binkley Avenue.  The student had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and is underage.  The student was issued a court citation for the violation.  Closed.

050207  2:53 AM:  Driving Under the Influence by a Minor/Possession of Alcohol by a Minor/Criminal Trespass Warning:  Officers stopped a vehicle in the 5800 block of Bishop Boulevard for a traffic violation.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as non-affiliated.  The driver had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and is underage.  The driver was cited for DUI-Minor.  A 30 pack of beer was observed in the passenger floorboard.  The passenger, also non-affiliated, said the beer belonged to him.  The passenger is underage and was cited for the violation.  Closed.

050208  7:59 AM:  Administrative Information Report:  A concerned student reported that he observed a vehicle in the Moody Garage that appeared to have been burglarized.  The owner of the vehicle was contacted and advised the incident occurred at an off campus location.  Closed.

050209  9:22 AM:  Criminal Mischief:  A staff member reported that a window pane in one of the dressing rooms at McFarlin Auditorium was broken.  Open.

050210  2:09 AM:  Possession of Marijuana/Places Weapons Prohibited:  A staff member reported that two men were observed sitting on the steps at the south entrance of the Heroy Building smoking marijuana.  Officers made contact with the two men and identified them as students.  The two students were found in possession of marijuana.  Both students consented to a search of their residence hall room.  One of the students also had marijuana in his room along with a pair of martial arts weapons that violate university policy.  Both will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050211  3:31 PM:  Theft - Class C (Less than $50):  A student reported that his wallet was stolen from a table in the Umphrey Lee Center.  Open.

050212  4:26 PM:  Harassment:  A staff member reported that he is being harassed by his non-affiliated ex-girlfriend. Open.

050213  11:06 AM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers responded to a fire alarm in Cockrell Hall.  Food burned in the microwave caused the alarm.  Closed.


February 5

050214  1:35 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to a loud noise complaint in the University Gardens Apartments.  The resident was contacted and told to keep the noise down.  Closed.

050215  2:38 AM:  Evading Arrest or Detention:  An officer observed a student in the Sigma Chi Parking Lot who appeared to be intoxicated.  When the officer attempted to make contact with the student, he fled on foot.  The student was last seen entering the Sigma Chi House.  A search of the house for the student met with negative results.  The identity of the student is known and he will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050216  2:10 AM:  Assist Other Agency:  Officers responded to a request for assistance from UPPD concerning a loud noise complaint at 3430 Shenandoah.  Closed.

050217  9:00 AM:  Crime Prevention Program:  Lt. Jemmott conducted a self-defense class at Storey Hall for members of the Law School.  Closed.

050218  9:17 AM:  Criminal Mischief:  A staff member reported that a concrete trash receptacle on the west side of Moody Coliseum was damaged.  Open.

050219  11:12 AM:  Disturbance:  Officers responded to a disturbance at the Perkins Natatorium involving two staff members.  The staff members' supervisor responded to handle the dispute.  Closed.

050220  1:30 PM:  Medical Call:  Officers responded to a medical call at the Owens Arts Center involving a student.  Closed.

050221  4:58 PM:  Medical Call:  Officers responded to a medical call at the Cinco Center involving a student.  Closed.

050222  6:19 PM:  Assist Other Agency:  Officers responded to a request UPPD  regarding assistance locating a robbery suspect.  The suspect was found by a SMU PD officer and arrested near the Law Garage.  Closed

050223  8:40 AM:  Vehicle Accident:  A non-affiliated man was involved in a vehicle accident in the West Quad Lot.  Closed.

050224  2:37 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to a loud noise complaint in the University Gardens Apartments.  The resident was contacted and told to keep the noise down.  Closed.

050225  2:20 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers responded to 2807 Binkley Avenue regarding a noise complaint.  Officers observed a large group of people inside the apartment.  The odor of alcoholic beverages was detected.  Officers identified 5 students and 2 non-students as underage.  All were issued court citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor.  The students will also be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.


February 6

050226  3:48 AM:  Outstanding Warrants/Criminal Trespass Warning:  Officers located a man laying down behind a dumpster behind the Cobblestone Shoe Repair store.  The man has active warrants from Dallas Police Department.  He was arrested and transported to the Dallas County Jail and was issued a criminal trespass warning.  Closed.

050227  12:33 AM:  Theft Class B ($50-$499):  A student reported that someone had stolen clothing items from the laundry room at 2948 Binkley Ave.  No suspects.  Closed.

050228  20:15 PM:  Failure to Identify/Interference with Public Duties:  While officers were immobilizing a vehicle in the 2800 block of Binkley Ave, three students approached to include the owner of the vehicle.  The students provided false names to officers when questioned.  The students will be referred tot he Judicial Officer.  Closed.


February 7

050229  11:55 AM:  Assault/Criminal Mischief:  Officers responded to Hawk Hall to investigate a disturbance.  Investigations revealed that the resident's live-in boyfriend physically assaulted her.  During the struggle, the man  pulled the phone cord out of the wall when the student attempted to call police.  Before officers arrived, the man fled out of the bathroom window and ran off.  A warrant will be obtained for his arrest.  Open.

050230  1:37 PM:  Administrative Information Report:  A staff member in the Law School received a letter from a relative.  This is the third time she has received odd mail from this person at work.  Closed.

050231  4:35 PM:  Burglary of Vehicle:  A student reported that her car had been burglarized and her stereo was stolen.  This offense occurred between 11:30 AM and 4:35 PM in the Commuter Lot.  Open.

050232  5:10 PM:  Burglary of Vehicle:  A student reported that his car had been burglarized while parked in the 3000 block of Binkley Ave between 10:45 AM and 5:45 PM. The stereo was stolen.  Open.

050233  7:00 PM:  Crime Prevention Talk:  Lt. Jemmott conducted a crime prevention seminar for residents of Hawk, Martin and Moore Halls.  Closed.

050234  7:20 PM:  Criminal Trespass Warning:  Officers responded to the Phi Delta Theta house to investigate  a report of an unwanted person in the house.  Investigation revealed that the house director's ex-boyfriend was in the house uninvited.  The man was escorted from the house and issued a criminal trespass warning.  Closed.

050235  7:45 PM:  University Policy Violation:  A staff member reported the odor of marijuana coming from a room in Boaz Hall.  A check of the room was conducted, but no one was in the room at the time.  Students who live in the room will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050236  8:36 PM:  An Interview in the Field:  Officers stopped a non-affiliated man that was seen driving over a grassy area near the Theology Lot.  Inspection of the area was done and it appeared that no damage had occurred.  Closed.


February 8

050237  1:28 AM:  Criminal Mischief:  While conducting a residence hall check in McElvaney Hall, an officer found a broken window.  Walls in the area had also been damaged.  Closed.

050238  5:54 AM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:   A drill was conducted at Mary Hay Hall with an evacuation time of two minutes and fifty-six seconds.  Closed.

050239  6:03 AM:  Emergency Evacuation Exercise:  A drill was conducted at Shuttles Hall with an evacuation time of three minutes.  Closed.

050246  5:00 PM:  Credit Card or Debit Abuse:  A staff member reported that a staff member is suspected of making unauthorized charges using a SMU credit card.  The charges occurred during the month of January 2005.  Open.

050247  9:38 PM:  Fire Alarm/Fire Safety Violation:  Officers and UP Fire Department investigated a fire alarm at the Panhellenic House 2.  A student, burning a candle in a room, caused the alarm to activate.  She will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050256  4:23 PM:  Theft Class B ($50-$499):  A student reported that her cell phone was stolen while she was in the Fondren Library.  The phone had been left unattended on a table when it was taken.  Closed.


February 10

050257  2:46 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/University Alcohol Policy Violation:  An officer stopped a student for failure to stop at the stop sign at Binkley and Ownby Streets.  Two underage student passengers were cited for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050258  4:06 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to Perkins Hall to investigate a noise complaint.  A student who had been involved in case #050257 was upset and causing a disturbance.  He was turned over to a fellow student after he calmed down.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050259  5:11 AM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and UP Fire Department responded to the Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) house to investigate a fire alarm.  A smoke detector in a room activated.  There were no indications or fire or smoke.  Cause of the alarm is unknown.  Closed.

050260  9:58 AM:  Vehicle Accident:  A staff member was having a SMU vehicle washed at the Vintage Car Wash in University Park.  While the vehicle was being dried off, an employee of the car wash hit the vehicle causing minor damage.  SMU Risk Management will file a claim with the car wash.  Open.

050261  12:57 PM:  Burglary of a Habitation:  A student reported that an unknown  person entered his room in Boaz Hall and stole his computer.  The room was not locked at the time of the burglary.  Open.

050262  10:53 PM:  Assist Other Agency:  A student was arrested by University Park Police for Driving While Intoxicated after he crashed his car in the 3000 block of SMU Blvd.  SMU officers assisted UPPD during the investigation of this offense.  The student was booked into the UPPD jail and will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.


February 11

050263  2:34 AM:  Driving Under the Influence by a Minor/Possession of Fictitious License/Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  A student was stopped for failure to stop at the stop sign at Binkley Ave. and Airline Road.  Investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages and is under the age of 21.   She also was in possession of a counterfeit drivers license.  Two student passengers in the car were cited for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor.  All three students will also be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050264  7:54 AM:  Theft Class B ($50-$499):  A student's car was immobilized on Jan 28, 2005 in the 3200 block of Binkley Ave.  She has not paid the removal fine and the vehicle has been moved.  Officers located the car and have impounded the vehicle until she returns the missing boot and pays all fines.  02/14/05:  Investigation revealed that the student's car was towed in error.  The student legitimately paid to have the boot released on a previous day.  All charges against the student have been dropped.  Unfounded-no crime or violation of university policy occurred..

050265  10:40 AM:  Assist Other Agency:  An officer was flagged down by two students in the 6500 block of Durham Street in University Park.  They had been involved in a vehicle accident and requested assistance.  University Park Police were contacted and responded.  Closed.

050266  12:52 PM:  Suspicious Person:  A student reported that someone left a note on her car at 3120 Daniel Street on February 10, 2005 between 10:00 pm and 10:30 pm.  Officers will make contact with the person that left the note and tell him that this type of activity is not allowed on campus.  Open.

050267  10:09 PM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and UP Fire Department responded to the Delta Sigma Theta house to investigate a fire alarm.  A house member said she was blow-drying her hair when the alarm activated.  No fire or smoke present.  Closed.


February 12

050268  12:40 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers cited two underage students who were observed consuming beer in the Moody Parking Garage.  They will also be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050269  2:34 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officer cited two underage students who had been consuming alcoholic beverages as they staggered down the 3100 Block of Binkley Ave.  Both women were provided an escort home.  They will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050270  2:39 AM:  Driving While Intoxicated/Vehicle Accident:  A student crashed his vehicle into a utility pole in the 3000 block of SMU alley.  Investigation revealed the driver had been removed from the scene by other students prior to police arrival.  He was later returned to the scene for an interview.  The vehicle sustained major damage as did the utility pole.  The student and three other involved students will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050271  3:22 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers contacted a student in Boaz Hall.  The student had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and is underage.  The student was issued a court citation. The student was also involved in case 050270.  He will also be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050272  3:32 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to the Binkley Apartments, 2900 block of Binkley Ave, to investigate a noise complaint.  Three students were involved in an argument causing the disturbance.  All three students will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050273  4:28 AM:  Tamp. w/Fire Protection System/Fire Alarm:  Officers and UP Fire Department responded to investigate a fire alarm.  A student discharged a fire extinguisher in the basement laundry room in Mary Hay Hall causing the alarm.  He will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  The student will also be cited by the UP Fire Marshall.  Closed.

050274  3:47 PM:  Administrative Information Report:  Officers located a student's vehicle that suffered major damage in the 3000 block of University Blvd.  Officers attempted to make contact with the student to check on his status.  A fellow student reported the vehicle was damaged on February 10, 2005 at an off campus location.  Contact with the owner of the vehicle is pending.  Open.

050275  8:08 PM:  Sick or Injured Person:  Officers and UP EMS responded to a medical call in Moody Coliseum involving a non-affiliated woman.  Closed.


February 13

050276  12:30 AM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers responded to the Phi Delta Theta house to check a fire trouble alarm.  The house president indicated that they have had problems with a fire sprinkler control sensor.  RLSH staff was contacted to work on the system.  Closed.

050277  2:33 AM:  Loud Noise Complaint:  Officers responded to a noise complaint at the Binkley Apartments, 2900 block of Binkley Ave.  Two students were causing the disturbance in their apartment.  The students will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050278  2:35 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor/Code of Conduct Violation:  Officers observed a woman running from a man in the alley of 3100 Binkley Ave.  Investigation revealed both involved persons are students.  During the investigation, some false information was provided to officers.  One of the students admitted he and the other student had been drinking and both are underage.  Both students will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050280  2:41 AM:  Possession of Marijuana/Possession/Delivery Drug Paraphernalia/Outstanding Warrants:  A student was arrested in the 5900 block of Bishop Blvd. after he was stopped by officers for running a stop sign and driving at a high rate of speed.  A computer check showed he had an outstanding warrant from University Park.  He was also issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.  A small amount of marijuana was also found in the vehicle.  He was booked into the UP jail and will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050281  12:03 PM:  Motor Vehicle Accident:  A student and a non-affiliated man were involved in a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Bishop Boulevard and Peyton Parkway.  Both vehicles sustained minor damage.  Closed.

050282  12:45 PM:  Fire Alarm:  Officers and the UP Fire Marshal responded to a fire alarm in the Dedman Life Sciences Building.  A purge valve opened causing steam to fill a mechanical room and set off the alarm.  Closed.

050283  6:18 PM:  Crime Prevention Presentation:  Lt. Jemmott conducted a crime prevention presentation in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center for 100 new members of the IFC.  Closed.


February 15

050284  10:50 AM:  Medical Call:  Officers and UP EMS responded to a medical call at the Memorial Health Center involving a student.  Closed.

050285  15:42 PM:  Criminal Mischief:  A student reported that someone punctured a tire on his vehicle while it was parked in the Dedman 3 Parking Lot.  The estimated damage value is $125.00.  Open.

050286  7:17 PM:  Violation of University Policy or Code of Conduct:  A student approached an officer in an aggressive and belligerent manner while the officer was placing an immobilization device on the student's vehicle.  The student refused to comply with the officer's request and became argumentative.  The student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050287  11:56 PM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers made contact with three students in the South Quad area who were observed throwing hard objects at a second story window in McElvaney Hall.  The officer contacted the students and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their breaths.  All three students are underage and will be referred to the Judicial Officer for the alcohol violation.  Closed.


February 16

050288  3:02 AM:  Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor:  Officers made contact with three students at the southeast entrance of McElvaney Hall.  All three students had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their breath and are underage.  One student was issued a court citation.  Another student refused to sign his citation, was arrested and transported to UP Jail.  All three student will be referred to the Judicial Officer.  Closed.

050310  3:09 AM:  Cruelty to Animals:  A student reported that he saw three unknown men toss bags of live chickens over the rear gate of the Pi Kappa Alpha house.  The suspects were seen running to a nearby fraternity house.  Two of the chickens were found dead by police.  The other 16 chickens were captured and turned over to a Highland Park Department of Public Safety officer.  Investigation pending.
