Office Safety

·        Protect your Property: Never leave handbags or wallets on your desk. When you leave the area, take it with you or place it in a locked cabinet.

·        Never assume a stranger wondering in the work area is a staff member: Challenge him/her by asking, "May I help you?"  This will deter the dishonest.

·        Personal Property: If you bring personal items to work, such as a coffeepot, a radio, or a calculator, mark them with your name or initials and an identification number.

·        Be discreet: Don’t advertise your social life or vacation plans or those of your co-workers to people visiting or calling your place of work.

·        Don’t be intimidated by visitors: If a person asks to see an employee, make sure the person is expected and announced first.

·        Better to be safe than sorry: Report any suspicious people or activity to the campus police immediately by dialing 911. Pay attention to physical appearance and clothing so an accurate description may be provided. Observe where they go and obtain a license plate number if a vehicle in involved.

·        The Buddy System: Always let someone know where you will be whether you are coming in late, working late, going to the copy room or mail room, to lunch or a meeting.
