Student Director Positions

New Student Orientation and Student Support is excited to announce that applications for Orientation Director positions (AARO Director  and Mustang Corral Directors) for 2010 are now available.  These positions work with New Student Orientation and Student Support throughout the Spring Semester and Summer of 2010.  These positions allow you the chance to help shape orientation at SMU and are also a great way to gain experience working in a professional office.  Both positions allow you to gain skills that are applicable in almost any career field you might be pursuing.  Applications are due in the New Student Orientation and Student Support Office (Suite 307 in Hughes-Trigg) by 5:00pm on October 30.

Advanced Advising, Registration, Orientation (AARO) Director

AARO Director assists in the planning and implementation of AARO 2010.  Director will be employed from May 24-August 23. 

 

Requirements:

Director must be able to begin work on May 24, 2010 and work through August 23, 2010.  Director is expected to be part of summer staff (May-August 2010) and will be required to work 37.5 hours per week.  Candidates must be in good judicial standing with the University and maintain a GPA over 2.5.  AARO Leader experience is required.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend all AARO Planning Meetings, AARO Leader Meetings, and 1:1 meetings with the Director of New Student Orientation and Student Support during Spring and Summer 2010.

 

  • Participate in Orientation Leadership Institute class during Spring 2010 – Wednesdays, 3:30-5:00 PM.

 

  • Work three office hours/week in New Student Orientation and Student Support during the Spring Semester.

 

  • Assist in creating and implementing 4 AARO Leader classes during the Spring Semester.

 

  • Participate and assist in all orientation leader training sessions.

 

  • Prepare vignettes for AARO sessions.

 

  • Live in residence hall for term of summer employment.

 

  • Emergency on-call staff member for AARO.

 

  • Abide by university rules and regulations.

 

  • Serve as a Mustang Corral Leader.

 

  • Participate in Encore events.

 

Compensation includes:

  • Room and board is offered as compensation for extra hours worked.

 

  • $100 in Express Cash.

 

  • $7.25/hour – up to 37.5 hours/week from May 24-August 18.

 

 

 

Mustang Corral Director

Mustang Corral Directors will assist in the planning and implementation of Mustang Corral 2010.  Directors will be employed from May 24-August 23.

  • Attend all Mustang Corral Planning Meetings, Mustang Corral Leader Meetings, and 1:1 meetings with the Assistant Director of New Student Orientation and Student Support during Spring and Summer 2010.

 

  • Participate in Orientation Leadership Institute class during Spring 2010 – Wednesdays, 3:30-5:00 PM.

 

  • Work three office hours/week in New Student Orientation and Student Support during the Spring Semester.

 

  • Assist in Mustang Corral Leader recruitment and interviews during the spring semester.

 

  • Assist in creating and implementing Mustang Corral Leader training during the spring and summer.

 

  • Plan and implement Mustang Corral including logistics and program development.

 

  • Abide by university rules and regulations.

 

  • Participate in Encore Events for 2010.

 

Compensation includes:

  • Room and board for summer employment.  While on-campus housing is provided for all Mustang Corral Directors it is not a requirement to live on-campus.

 

  • $100.00 additional Express cash. (Express cash, room and board is offered as compensation for extra hours worked)

 

  • $7.25/hour – up to 37.5 hours/week from May 24-August 18.
