The Office of New Student Orientation and Student Support provides ongoing programs and services that support new students and families in transition to Southern Methodist University.
We provide a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, connect students to University resources and people, acquaint new students with institutional expectations and values, promote learning and discovery both inside and outside of the classroom, and foster pride in the SMU community.

AARO is a two-day program (one day for transfer students) designed to assist you in making a comfortable transition to University life at SMU. AARO sessions provide academic requirements and expectations, campus resources, involvement opportunities and the chance to meet current students. During your AARO session, you will also meet one-on-one with an academic advisor and register for fall classes. Activities are also available for parents and families. Learn more about AARO.
January AARO is specifically designed for new students entering in the Spring Semester. This year January AARO will be held on January 11th. If you are entering SMU as a new student in the Spring of 2012 you can find out more information about January AARO here, and can register here.
Mustang Corral is a three-day, off-campus retreat for all incoming students. In addition to meeting your classmates, you will also get to know faculty, staff, and student leaders who will teach you about the spirit and traditions of SMU, as well as academic life. Mustang Corral is one of the top SMU traditions that you don’t want to miss! Learn more about Mustang Corral.
