SMU congratulates alumnus and 1978 Mustang football team member Jim Irsay on his Indianapolis Colts' Super Bowl win.
With Mr. Irsay and the late Lamar Hunt, SMU now has two alums with NFL titles and ties to the Super Bowl. Mr. Hunt coined the name Super Bowl for football’s championship game. Mr. Irsay's Indianapolis Colts won Super Bowl XLI on Sunday with a 29-17 victor over the Chicago Bears.
In the fall of 2006, Mr. Irsay created a scholarship at SMU for Indiana students. The "Irsay Scholars," as they are known, receive a four-year, full tuition scholarships with room and board at SMU.
