SMU mourns death of student


Jordan Crist

SMU reports with great sadness the death of student Jordan Crist, a first-year student from Hinsdale, Ill. Mr. Crist was found unresponsive in a campus residence hall this morning by a fellow student. He was pronounced dead at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas after resuscitation efforts by SMU police personnel and University Park paramedics.

The cause of death is unknown and will be determined by the Dallas County Medical Examiner. A preliminary investigation by SMU Police indicated no foul play had occurred.

Grief counselors and University chaplains are available to meet with students, and the SMU Counseling Service is available 24 hours a day.

SMU extends its deepest sympathy and prayers to Mr. Crist’s family and friends. The entire SMU community is diminished by this loss.

A memorial service was held Thursday, May 3, in SMU's Perkins Chapel.
