SMU celebrates 93rd Commencement


SMU senior Veronica Perez's father, a soldier in Iraq, made it home just in time for her graduation.  See the story and video .

SMU awarded nearly 2,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees as part of its 93rd Commencement. (See a slide show .)

Dr. Allen Weinstein, the noted historian who oversees the nation's presidential libraries, spoke at the all-University ceremony on Saturday. (Read the text or see a video of his speech. Download to your iPod.)

The Baccalaureate Sermon was presented on Friday evening by the Rev. Dr. Sheron Patterson, the senior pastor of Highland Hills United Methodist Church in Dallas, a strong advocate for the advancement of women and author of eight books. SMU also conferred honorary degrees upon four men and women for achievements in science, education and philanthropy.
